Post subject:  Throttle sensor problem on Gti swift?

there is one problem that i was aware of when i bought the car.

the Throttle position sensor is playing up on a 1/4 pedal it will stale like there is no fuel going through but full revs is fine, but when ignition is turned off the tps works fine on the computer.

it is taking a while to kick over & start as well a good 6 or 7 seconds turning the key over, my mini starts first go! :D

he is using haltech he know what he is doing & has cleaned up the map alot but he is stumped on this problem, he has not seen something like this before.

he can tune around it but i don't want that as it's not fixing the problem really.

i saw with him & he showed me that when ignition is off, the tps is working right, ignition on car running it's playing up & not fueling low pedal.

it's really weird.

any idea what it could be? he mentioned maybe could be a feedback loop?? he plays with the injector position sensor & still nothing.

heath said he got a new one installed.

other then that small problem.. holy crap it's a fast car!

:D

I have head of similar problems being cured by adding rectifiers (diodes) into the wiring loom, but have never seen it myself.

Health did replace it - the last one got broken

I have got similar problems especially when the engine is start cold (i.e.have not been started for at least a few hours)

So on start up with cold engine, 1/4 pedal stalls and cannot do full pedal quickly as well as this will also stall.

But when the temperature (i.e. > 15degrees) of the engine goes up, problem goes.

My mechanic adjust the distributor by loosing the 2 bolts and turn it clockwise/anticlosewise when the engine is cold and ask me to test it on the pedal while he is turning the damn thing. When the problem goes, he immediately tighten the 2 bolts.

Problem solved. He said the bolts were not tight enough before.

cheers,
Ben

that's exactly the same problem i had in a rx7 running a haltech....

my preferred tuner was REALLY good (compared with the guy who set the car up initially) and he got it very close to perfect just with tune. everybody who ever picked the fault always blamed the TPS.

i never bothered changing the tps....

you were right.

the tps is fine & it is all in the tune so he is just finishing it off now.

well not stalling anymore.

but it's deff got a problem i think it;s a wire problem.

the car misses all over in revs ONLY when car is moving, on the dyno it was spot on for about 4 hrs more.

it made 105 hp atw at 7,000rpm

Edit all fixed.. turns out the earth strap was not on..

this thing F###ken HAmmers! :)
