Post subject:  floor mount pedal box
im pretty close to starting a swift conversion,

most of my questions have been answered, one id like to know though and cant find any info on is,

can i fit a proper racing pedal box into a road car and get it on the road without too much issue? im talking about a floor mount three pedal setup so not the kad ones or anything like that..

i guess if you can get an engine conversion engineered is it possible for something like this to be?

just trying to free up engine bay space..

How does changing the pedal box mounting position help free up the engine bay?
A clever design can still get roun this, and the other thing that springs to mind is a floor mount box will be weird to use in a minibacause you'd have to sit 2 feet back from normal to get the most out of it, then you can't reach the wheel or get out of the car.

A more useful answer now: yest you can probably do it and it will need to be engineered. They'll be checking it to be strongly mounted and its likelihood of being dangerout in an accident, I don't think any of that will be hard to get past given the whole engine is changing.
Check the vicroads site for any relevant information. I see nothing in VSI8 for modifications, but that doesn't mean you can just do what you want.

I understand your intent but its not necessary. If the exercise it to give a sleek looking engine bay then go for it, but I just wanted to ensure you knew the time/cost wasn't necessary.

Why go for a swift motor if I may ask? There are so many options available to you now.

AND...... lastly I would encourage you to buy a complete one before you build one yourself. There is a panel van on ebay with a starlet motor with a start price of $8.5k. He may not selling it for that but you WILL NOT build one for less than $10k.

If I were home in Australia now I would buy that panel van and put two seats in the back.

What other options? It's either 4efte or Suzuki if I don't want to be pioneering anything, it's easier to squeeze into a roundy, and turbo'd produces nice power.. But aside from all that I'm doing it because I can... I don't want to buy a car either I've already got one, and don't want to buy someone else's mistakes I'd be happier making my own, but I'm not asking how much it costs or wether I should do it..

From the looks of things the Suzuki engine with the standard plenum fouls on the master cylinders, so moving all of that into the car would solve one problem

I have seen a race Mini pic somewhere with a Wilwood pedal box and the MCs on the parcel shelf.. just a thought.

Yeah that's what I was thinking along the lines of at least if you had to put the mc tanks in the engine bay you could put them wherever.

a possible solution to that one is to cut the throttle body flange off the manifold and weld it on to the other end - I've seen that done on a mini

I'd be welding a couple of brace bars In to mount it off anyway as no it wouldn't, and yeah I've seen that too, I've seen custom plenums made but don't quite know the process of that yet

There is a fella (Dennis Turner maybe) in NSW who used to make subframes to suit swift motors

You ought to know someone from racing circles who could knock you up a new manifold or modify an existing one. Or you could teach yourself to TIG aluminium like I did ;)

Some of the sports sedan minis move the upper part of the firewall back to the dash rail - basically moving the parcel shelf area into the engine bay. Not suggesting you go that far, but it'd certainly give you more area for master cylinders & pedal box bracing

I sent a pm to gtitec and I'm waiting for a reply, if I can have a subframe made, and get some shafts then I'd be happy to do the rest myself, I can tig weld etc so no issues there.. I figure if I buy a front cut of a mini with no engine, then use that to mock everything up, get it running In there, then I won't have meeni off the road for too long next year as I can make my cuts measured from the other front end, and then just transfer everything over once the body is re sprayed

Having done both i would recommend the 4efte. No Master cylinder changes required and they fit in a Morris. Neither of them are easy, the 4efte is turbo and stronger out of the box.

Peugeot, Daihatsu, Suzuki (Kai? class) are other options. Put an R1 motor in it. Go onm, you know you want to :lol:

only issue is getting something like that engineered over here.. wish i lived in the uk
