I just thought I'd ask the people that have running 4efte minis how they drive? if you're running 10", 12" or 13" rims? wondering What ratio's are you guys running and what are the speeds like through the gears? did you have any issues going to the smaller wheels? how did you go sourcing parts? Cheers in advance. Raist. |

They drive well though 1st gear is very short for the power and could do with a bit taller gearing overall. I run 10" wheels with standard gear ratios: This is one i did for 13" wheels: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiXvsInkX-yrcE0xdExQZ182N29zZ3lFeEY0Vy1YVmc Basically: 1st: 60Km/h @ 7400rpm 2nd: 100Km/h @ 7400rpm 3rd 145Km/h @ 7400rpm 4th: 195Km/h @ 7400rpm 5th: 232Km/h @7400rpm Parts are standard toyota C52 gearbox available on a number of models. Replacement boxes are abundant, others will bolt straight on from the toyota family too if you want to play with gearing. Lots of aftermarket LSD's available as well. |

cheers for the reply, I'm planning on running a 5efe but the diff ratio's I'm able to get are horrible for anything under 13"s, so I've been trying to get some concrete answers as to whether or not the C52 or C56 trans will bolt to the 5efe bellhousing... I've had mixed replies from everyone and I've read some conflicting things.... so if by chance anyone knows and could tell me, that would be awesome. |

I'm pretty sure all the C series are bolt on replacements but not 100%. There is very little difference between 13" and 10" gearing - I've run both. |

I've heard that too in regards to the C series all bolting up, but i don't think that's the case with 'All' of them, but for the most part, it could be true.. my housemate who's a 'rolla nut says that most of the C series that's used on the A series (toyota) engines so I would imagine it'd be the same for the E series.. I've been trying to find this out -and get a solid answer- for months, but it looks like I'll have to just fork some cash out, get a C52 and hope it's not a complete waste of money.. ATM it's either I confirm that i can fit a C52, or, fork out thousands for a new output shaft (pinion is one piece with it) and crown wheel... not looking forward to that. |

What box is on the 5EFE? I just did some calcs and the difference between 10" and 13" wouldn't be noticed in real life. 1st Gear 10's: 61.6km/h 13's: 62.76km/h 2nd Gear 10's: 101.39km/h 13's: 104.61km/h 3rd Gear 10's: 146.45 13's: 152.89km/h Calculated @ 7800rpm |

Look on austarlet - there are build guides on how to make a 5EFTE - might help. |

Not all C series gearboxes use the same "Bell Housing"(half the gearbox) I have a C52 from a 4age20v and it is not a straight bolt up to a 4efte will fit with a few mods but not easy the main issue is the stater motor. The best thing to do is use a C52 from a 4efte and use that it will bolt up to a 5efe. If you want to start and change ratio's I believe that all "bell housings" will bolt up the same to the gearbox. I want to get a 3.5 final drive ratio but can't find out want car they came in. Starlet C52 has a 3.7:1. I have a list of what ratio's are in what some where. |

I've found a fairly extensive list or box/ratio/car it came in, somewhere... I've been reading things since around 7am.... my head is broken, but I'm fairly sure the closest I can find is the C52 from the EP82 starlet GT turbo. have you seen 'proof'** that the 4efte box will bolt directly to the block/ bellhousing of the 5e? **(not intending to sound like I'm picking, I've just been reading A LOT of this and that and my brothers mates sister in-law's nephews dogs best f......... and I'm looking for something a little more concrete.) Granted I'm still working my way through forums and reading everything i can... |

From the info ive got of the stock boxes that'll fit a 4efte engine the lowest diff ratio is a 3.526 out of a c150 4efe. But these have the thinner gears (never ripped one apart to look but i have got one). If you send me your email i can email you a spreadsheet i made that compares the C56 glanza, C52 GT, C150 4efe and the C160 6 speed. |

I have not seen a 5efte personally but every where I have read they bolt up to a 4efte gearbox the only difference is the fly wheel. The 5e bock is almost the same as a 4e block only difference is the 5e is slightly taller to make the extra 200cc. |
