Has anyone ever thought of doing or know of a rotary conversion into a Mini?? I think it would be pretty cool to see, I've always wanted to investigate into doing one... |

There's an urban legend from ten years ago that a bloke here in Langy built one. I went to school with the kid who's dad apparently did it. Apparently it had 400hp. Whether it actually existed or not I don't know. |

I've seen a sports sedan one for sale once.. So it's been done, good size engine I guess, would just need to be really well engineered to not completely ruin the cars handling with the heavy drive line |

After my recent purchase of an original rx3 I had the very same idea. There is a rotary mini on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp_iS_qbVdM |

I did see someone mating a 10a or one of the smaller rotaries to a FWD gearbox. I don't think it was going into a mini but was nice and compact. |

One used to race in NZ. From memory the car had been widened, but not sure of any details. Don't even know if it was FWD or RWD. |

There was one that raced at Morwell hill climb back in the 80's or 90's May be the one Meenie saw, I think it was front wheel drive and motor was pretty much in the cabin with a Volksy or Porsche gearbox towards the front. When I win tatts I would love to build a moke with a rear mid mount 12A (have a couple in the shed) driving through a rear transaxle, try and keep it looking stock for the ultimate sleeper ![]() ![]() |

The one you saw at Morwell was sold and headed north to NSW, so may be the one your mate saw at Eastern Creek?. Used a VW transaxle and a 10A to keep it under 2 litre. I have posted more photos on here so do a search ![]() ![]() |

I saw a thread on a rwd one with a Turbo 13b in the mini forum - www.theminiforum.co.uk. Search engine conversions -> other and you will see it. It looks like a real weapon. |

i looked into it once, but in nsw VSI 6 there is this clause - The engine capacity to be used for rotary engines is the displacement of all rotors x 2.... which makes it a lot less appealing in what size you can legally get into a mini |
