Small update, unfortunately life has gotten in the way of progress and not much has been done since March, but hoping things pick up again soon.

The most recent developments:

Got an exhaust:

Made some new lower rear mounts:

Fitted the new towers:

And the AC compressor.

I've also started some of the bodywork, repositioned the radiator and made some stronger engine mounts.
Hoping to whip the frame out and have it in primer in the coming weeks, then I can sort the rest of the bodywork.

A small update thats almost epic: modded the firewall of the car:

And put the engine in to see how it fits the real car instead of the old front cut.
Fit's even better, so things are looking pretty good at this stage! :D

Are you going to stick with the factory exhaust manifold? Or does the aftermarket one you have fit ok?

Admittedly I cheaped out when I bought that aftermarket exhaust and it would need more work than I want to put in at this stage to make it usable.
Apart from all the exhaust ports being too small and the mounting holes too big, the twin pipes that sweep under the car have been welded on backwards so it sits low on one side and high on the other.

For now, the stocko exhaust and underpipe fits without mods, and that cat won't need much work either so I'll stay with them to keep my engineer happy for emission reasons.

Mine too is a cheap one. The aftermarket one is much lighter but won't fit as it sticks out too far for my application.
I will be going for a custom made one to make it fit correctly. More $$$

I pretty much decided the same. The factory unit whilst really heavy is fairly compact for its size and fits without the need for me to trim any of the front grille out.
The aftermarket unit i have could probably be chopped and modified to fit, but since i dont have a TIG i wouldnt be thr one putting it back together anyway so may as well sell it and go full custom like you- but that will happen much later if it does.

I've done a few little things and will try and get some pics up in the next week or two. Some of these are still work in progress at the moment.

-Rebuilt and painted engine
-Rebuilt and painted booster
-Rebuilt and painted alternator
-Modified exhaust sensor for clearance
-Solidified engine mounts
-Finished alternator mount
-Had radiator welded up with the modified mounts / hoses
-Changed AC compressor so have started on a new mount for that.

Next items on my list:
-Rebuild gearbox
-Get subframe painted
-Rebuild hubs and brakes
-Bodywork- and lots of it!

A fair bit then. Are you going to run it before starting the body work?

Not an update as such: just something for people that had been watching from the start - I'm thinking that perhaps I'd be open to offers for all of my GTI parts and conversion bits. The short version of the list is:

Subframe - painted and ready to bolt in.
Driveshafts
Radiator - modified and welded to be reverse of normal radiator.
Inlet manifold - My very special performance manifold that looks completely stock!
2x GTI engines - 1 that was running plus an extra short block.
2x gearboxes (cino type for reduced RPM when driving).
Everything I stripped out of the donor GTI car - full wiring, dash, driveline, brakes, fuel tank, exhaust.
Engine mounts, alternator mounts, clutch adapter parts all painted and ready to go.
Shifter linkages modified and ready to install

Haven't completely decided what I'm going to do yet but the offer of green stuff might change my mind as it will help with the honda build!
Wouldn't go cheap though - I put hundreds of hours into research, design, and the building of everything thinking I'd keep the car forever.

All focus has already been on the vtec for the past 2 years, and another conversion is in 'pre-planning' stage for next year which will not involve the GTI either, so it's just taking up space till after that.
