Sam, have any of the engine modification/ swap laws changed?
And what part of the GC hinterland are you in?

Hey Gordo,

Not that I can see, just a new code. I live on Mt Tamborine but my project build is happening out near Springbrook.

Cheers, Sam

Nice! Where did you end up getting the drive shafts made up?

Surely cut and joined shafts would be cheaper Harley?

Drive shafts were made by AGM Engineering in Sydney. Very easy to deal with, so I'll be getting them to do more for me later.

Shut up Cam.

What did they cost for a set to get made? If you don't mind me asking? (PM me if you like) And do you know what they reckon they'll be capable of holding?

No big updates for this project unfortunately, other than it may soon have to be shelved indefinitely.

Basically, from the start the car has had a deadline to which I'd have to have built the thing in, thats not happened due to a very busy year, and
my prospects for next year are a bit on the unknown side at the moment - I just know I won't have time to finish it, certainly not in road-going form anyway.
For those that haven't seen it - Cam has proven that the frame / shafts / engine combo work with the first 'spin off' car finished and going:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66860&start=38

I meanwhile have still been plugging away at things, just very slowly. Subframe is ready for paint now, engine mounts done, and new wheels are here.
I probably have 95% of the parts to finish this thing sitting here, just no time to finish the cooling system and bodywork before assembly.
For the computer geeks amongst you - my models continue to gain parts and details too.

That doesn't sound good Harley,

I have enjoyed following this thread and was looking forward to seeing the end result. Shelved indefinitely means stuck away in the shed for later?

Shed for later is right, as it looks like I might be moving interstate for a while. I can revisit things when I return, but I don't know when that'll be.

Sad to here Harley. I too have enjoyed following your build. I hope the new year treats you kindly. I'm looking forward to hearing updates on your project in the near future.

Yeh that'd be good - can always have a use for minions!

Things have changed again for me in the last few months - I didn't end up going interstate but I did move. The GTI project is living in the shed at my dads place so I have to go round there any time I want to work on it which isn't as easy as it being at the same place. Progress is picking up again though - just very slowly. No photos at the moment but the engine compartment us undergoing cutting / modifications at the moment, my alternator mount is mostly sorted (thanks Cam), and I'm relocating the radiator to the front instead of the side. Next weekend I'll put the engine and frame back in the car so I can make the radiator brackets - then I can start on some more fun stuff like engine rebuilding and panting.
:D
