There is a section of the forum here full of engine conversions.

Some on a UK forum too for inspiration (although they have different regulations over there)

That definitely won't satisfy the 'not cutting into the engine bay' criteria.

Are you talking about replacing the existing engine with another A Series engine of larger capacity, or installing a different engine from another make of vehicle?

What model and year Mini do you have?

Same kit as the Mini Tec/SuperFastMinis conversion linked above.

The other option is a 8v or 16v Bmw K series head swap.

1275 MG Metro engine won't need any bodywork whatsoever. :)

Keep in mind that if you're doing any engine conversion away from the A series engine, cutting into the engine bay will be one of the easier jobs. That is to say, an engine that doesn't need any cutting won't be much easier than one that does, so if you're looking to avoid engine bay cutting to make things easier, then it's really a drop in the ocean.

You will still need to fabricate the subframe, engine mounts, cables, drive shafts, clutch, transmission rods/cables and splice two wiring looms, and that's presuming there is no interference with the brakes or anything else in the engine bay.

True but an engine that doesn't modify the original monocoque might appear easier to revert back for originality. Not sure how the engineer views this.

I've heard CG13CE engines with the smaller 1.0l gearbox are fairly easy to fit, you don't need to cut wings and the radiator can be retained. However, many seem to go down the route of using the whole 1.3 package, which requires some bulkhead mods.
