Anything that says 12mm hex is fine. As long as it's designed for 1/10 scale, you can put on any wheel you want. I avoid anything with drift tires though.

That reciever/transmitter will do fine. Battery should also be ok, as long as it fits.
You can grab another motor for $10 from m-chassis.com

Lots of great sites:
Banzai hobby
Rcmart.com
M-chassis.com
Walter rc hobbies

Don't just buy any 12mm hex wheel. Whilst they will fit, they will foul on the mini body. You need m-chassis wheels and tyres. I use ride mc38 on the front and mc32 on the rear. This is what works on out local track.

my wheels are fine, and since I spent close to $350 in the last 2 days without even buying a new chassis I'll stick with what I've got

Something other than a boring old contessa would be good - maybe I should draw up some Cooper S wheels and send them to shapeways :D

Try some MC34's or SC36's on the front. Much more fast. However, I won our last club day on 'slow' MC38's. Although the 34's and 36's wear well for a quick tyre, the wear rate on the 38's is unbelievable! I was running MC38 front, and Team Powers 36 on the back.

Thanks for the tip Scott. I'm having heaps of trouble with the car being really skittish. Almost as though the front digs in while the rear just skips around.

How's your spec-r going?

Scott or Ryan, can you explain what these letters and numbers mean?

Different tyre compounds. We are talking about the Ride 'inch up' tyres. They use a different size rim. Overall diameter is still less than a kit tyre, so they are assumed legal (I questioned them when they first come out, but many people use them at the nationals, so I tried them, and love them). Ignore, Simon, unless you're coming racing!

Ryan, it sounds like you're not getting grip on the back. Get yourself some Spice 28's for the rear, and with the MC38's, it should be easy to drive. Maybe try some different springs. Go reds on the back and blue's on the front. It will take less grip from the front and give more to the back. If still struggling, and you want the car to be easy to drive, get yourself this tyre combo - Ride 3035 front, and Spice 28 rear. It's slower, but extremely consistent.

Oh and the Spec-R is in bits. I broke the spool (driver failure, probably hit a board at full noise). Gotta get some spares!

The spec-r is a brand of car that Scott and I have both recently begun racing. They are a very cheap touring car. I'm using a spec-r s1, which is no longer available, but the newer s2 is only $80. There is also an R1 that is their top touring car, but it's still considered a cheap/budget car at around $300.

As you point out simon, they also make some parts for the m05 such as the oil gear diff. It's not really needed unless racing. Most people I know use the Yeah Racing oil gear diff.

As Scott pointed out, you won't need the racing tyres for bashing.
