Post subject:  How do you Display Your Mni's??????

I have been wondering for some time now as to the best way to display all my matchbox and similar sized minis. I came across some display cases made for model cars like this,

The only problem is that they are over $200 each plus postage. Due to space restrictions, I have no alternative but to make up either some form of display case or shelving type system. What do you use?????

That looks awesome but the price is scary (until you figure the value of what you're putting in it of course ....) . I have scrounged all the junk shops , second hand shops , auction houses , garage sales and anything else similar to get display cases from big shop counters to small standalone units . In the past I have also used aluminium sliding windows , you can get them cheaply from second hand building places already in a timber frame like in the listing below (only I used smaller ones and paid a damn site less) ,

It's pretty simple to put a plywood backing on it and shelves and you have a large glass display unit you can easily lock ( sliding window keyed locks are cheap at bunnings etc) . In a previous house (now rented out) I was building a mini room (plan to do this in my "ultimate shed" one day) with one wall covered in 100mm wide shelving 100mm apart and then a 3 panel sliding glass door on the front . It would have meant using a special stick with a padded hook to get models from the furthest end of the shelf since the door only opened in the middle but for a 3.5 meter wide lockable glass wall it would have been bearable :D

The display case looks great but I keep all mine in original boxes or packages so that rules that out except maybe for the few loose ones. Mine are all piled into a locker in the shed but I want to eventually dispaly them as well. I think sports 850's various cabinets are great but it also depends on where you are allowed to put them if you dont live alone. I might end up having a go at making my own along a wall when I get my new garage.

I don't have too many so all my models are in the cabinet in the office.
