Hi guys,
Im not big in RC cars, but have my fair share of RC helis, multi rotors and planes. all electric and have been flying for 10 years, and in spare time build and design UAV's and the onboard electronics for them with my Father (an ex radio tec for ASA)

ive got a few cars, a small brushless 4wd baja bug and two crawlers, one converted to promax400 motors that does about 90kph untill you corner and it flips down the road!

i plan to tear one of the crawlers down and do a scale replica of my defender 90 with it.

which brings me to the next point. . I really want an RC mini but given i have a rather low income and live well beyond my means as it is, own a new car, new bike 3 minis in poor state and am trying to buy a house! splashing big cash on a tamiya M03 or M05 isnt really on the cards, what other potentially cheaper but still decent options are there out there for a scale RC mini? and has anyone managed to find a MK1 style body? i can only seem to locate the rover style body's?

Thanks
|Leroy.

I've never seen anything other than the Rover style. There's a ute and van versions available, usually on UK Ebay. Keep an eye out on ebay Aust, 2nd hand M series cars come up fairly regularly and don't usually fetch much.

You can buy the m05 for $150 delivered. To me thats pretty good value considering you would already have the radio gear and possibly the battery.

But they do come up second hand every now and then.

Sorry, no mk1 bodies to date. There is this one for track racing... https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3270/2918 ... ddba17.jpg and this has mk1 rear lights but still, not a mk1. ABC hobbies make some discontinued kits that you can get on ebay, not minis as standard but the shells go right on. They will cost more than you are probably willing to pay for. Either a mk1 pickup or mk1 traveler. I was working on a clubman body mould but it was to be 1/8 scale for my buggy chassis. Either way, you are looking at about $200 minimum for absolutely everything for an rc mini. That is relying on finding a really good deal. Other than that, a second hand M03 or a second hand/new M05 really is the cheapest option. The thing is, it's best to simply wait for it, just put the money away and get the things you really want for it.

Good price this one. Comes with the esc and motor. All you need is radio gear and battery. Not sure about postage but they are a reliable site with good feedback. This one comes with the optional spotlights and rally decals. You also get two different types of license plates and bumpers without the spotlight mounts if you want. Then all you have to do is trim the arches to your preference. Pretty sure you get all of the rover racing decals too. You just need to paint it how you like and there you go.

Kyosho made a 1/10 mk1 mini - external hinges, sliding windows, mk1 grille and all.
The shells pop us on ebay from time to time.

tempting. . . would really love a non Rover style.. but I guess I cant be picky. that price doesn't seem too bad, Wonder if I can find it cheaper without motor and ESC though. . .
kind of makes me want to pull my PlaFit slot cars out with my scale mini made to match my beloved Sid.

if you want a kit, the esc and motor come standard, they never did produce one without. I believe they produced one ready built and with the radio aswell but not without motor or esc. I'm afraid if you want a decent car, that's how much a hobby grade RC is. i doubt you'll find it much cheaper unfortunately. Don't feel so bad, I have a 1/5 that weighs 20kg and that cost $1500 brand new.

Try these guy's, I get a lot from them. You can get a bundle deal with what ever bits you need extra. Just ask, bit slow on replies but very helpful.
