This argument is a little pointless isn't it? A Bini is not a Mini, a Clubman is not a Mini, a Mark II Cooper S is not a Mini, a Van, Ute, Traveller, Moke, Jem are not Mini's
I mean if you follow the logic to it's ultimate conclusion then nothing could be called a "Mini" unless it was Sir Alec's original design. So technically [following the logic] a Mark II Cooper S is not allowed to call itself a mini because it differs from a Mark I.
The bottom line is that they are all Mini's and they all are great little cars. We all have our own preference amoungst the vast variety of flavours they come in or can be modified towards. Just admire the history, and the charm of them all.

I'm not entering into the 'real mini' debate because i have said too much about it elsewhere, but I do want to add something to this.
When they first made the Mini they refused to call it a mini. It was a Morris 850. they thought it was demeaning that everyone called them a mini or a mini minor. eventually they realised they had a hit on their hands, and caved to the pressure. I think the first time they badged them as minis was the delux (?) or maybe even the 'K' (?) the Morris Cooper S was never badged a mini (?) (correct me if i'm wrong)
for the record I love clubby's. my first car was a clubby, and i still own one. It took me many years to learn to appreciate round noses. If i was doing one up now, I would do the round nose, but for differnet reasons.
while everyone is still talking about what a real mini is, what's everyone's thought on moke. Is that a real mini?
