Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with ipod's in Binis? I have read about the BMW install and the Icelink...both seem to rate well.......

Tricky

I have one of the 'homemade' iPod connections on my Cooper. Some of the more expensive options require MFSW, which the Cooper does not have. I have basic connection, but it works :D :D :D

Try this link for making a 'homemade' cable: http://www.neeshil.com/nsite/miniaux.asp

Good Luck

haha @ cush..... thats what I'm worried about!!

Are you sure this home made joby will work with an 2002?....I keep reading about 2002 head unit differences....Rang Mini.....got vague answers.

I may be wrong but I think the only option you have with a 2002 is to either use the iTrip or something similar. Alternatively you need to change your head unit as the 2002 has no aux input.

I use the belkin adapter with built in amplifier plugged into the aux input, sound quality is sooo much better than iTrip but if you can get a frequency without any interference the iTrip will work quite well.

For early 2002 models, you will need to check the production date of the head unit.

How:
Turn on Stereo.
Press M button within 5 seconds and keep pressing.
When you can see SN on the display, press + button.
the display will show software version like "SV 32-03 50"
this example means 32nd week of year 2003 software version 50.

If the unit does not display 50 then you are out of luck, and cannot use the DIY cable.

Cheers

Thanks Chris!!! Printing page as I type.....will give it a whirl....Have an electrical whizz other half so he should be able to rig me up the lead if this works.

Babes I have considered the iTrip...but only as a last resort...

Does anyone have the Dension Icelink installed here or is that just an American thing?

I have an iTrip, and to be honest, I would give it a miss. In Melbourne, there's too much crap on the FM band - I could never find a usable station. I ended up putting AUX INPUTs in the MINI and in my BA. However, if you are after a cheap one, used once or twice, PM me.

The '+' button appears as a soft button.

When you press the M button after turning on the radio, keep pressing/holding and SN 123456 will appear. At that point, you will note that the two soft buttons on the RHS which have '-' etched on them will have '-' and '+' in the LCD above them, press the RHS side on and it will cycle to SV 37-03 50 (well mine did anyway).

Good Luck, any probs let me know and I will walk you through it.

Cheers

Yes, I believe that you should be able to use the homemade cable.

Good Luck
