I have seen recon R52 boxes for sale in the UK and US (Mini Mania) but they are expensive even without shipping costs. A new box will cost you back about $3,500 - $4,000 Parts to recon a box will set you back over $1k Don't know anyone who is reconditioning boxes in Oz. MINI dealers send theirs back to Germany for exchange. ![]() |

holy bankruptcy batman! isnt 2k a bit excessive? or is this a common price for a bini clutch replacement? |

i got quoted about $1200 for bini clurch and flywheel at motor trade rates. reason its expensive is they run a dual mass flywheel ie: they cant be machined so need replacing, thats where the extra $$ comes into play! oh and that was for a extreem heavy duty. |

I have a 02 mini cooper and it doesn't have a dual mass flywheel when I did my clutch I bought a new flywheel and got a aftermaket clutch which cost me just on $1000. Got the gearbox out and the flywheel was a soild I didn't need to buy one (for the record It took a combined time of me and a mate 15 hours tho complete the job) that is where most of the cost is. If anyone takles one of these you need a hoist. Not sure if the new model mini has a dual mass though |

It may just be the S models and the 2004 onwards cars that had 6 speed gearboxes. Is the clutch dual mass because its smaller or has more power handling ability? |

The reason for the dual mass flywheel is so the driveline vibrations are less and the gearbox can be made a little bit lighter duty due to the flywheel absorbing the harshness of the motor (cheaper for the car makers). These flywheels are turning out to be a nightmare on other makes that have them some cars are loosing drive due to them seperating, thay can be noisy and they can also cause the clutch to shudder and they can also cause a misfire at idle (we have been caught at work with this last one) |

diff only lasted 4.5 years (82k so not huge K's) I bought gearbox bits and bearings thru BMW. They take about 6 weeks to import. There are not many pieces in the diff so it might be worth getting a price from them. |

If the rest of the box is OK this might be a cheaper fix with a better product? |
