Post subject:  Lowered MINIs

Hi guys,

I've looked on other forums (mainy North American Motoring - how good is that forum!) and haven't really had toooo much in regards to seeing what people have got etc.

So I'm asking on here. Who has a lowered Cooper (or Cooper S).
Mine is an early MC R50, so I think the H&R is the only spring that is available.
It gives a 1" front, and 0.75" rear drop.
But I can't seem to find any pics of cars with this combo :!:

Whats everyone else running?
And have they gone with aftermarket struts too?

Cheers in advance.

also check out mini2.com

I have eibachs on my cooper s, though i think the jcw springs are a bit better for country roads and not quite as low as the eibachs for speed humps etc.

You are right the early R50's had a different tophat (from memory); what is the build date of your R50?

I believe Eibach also do a shortened spring for the early ones; I would suggest talking to the importers. EG Toperformance in Vermont for KONI.

I had an '03 Cooper with King Springs, here's a pic:

Also, checkout MINI2:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-genera ... 002-a.html

Both threads talk about the changes made to early front suspension.

I've got H&R's on my WRX. Best springs you can get before going to coil overs.

sa runs on 100mm ground clearance where no suspention or tyre parts are rubbing etc.

thats when they dont have the specified eyebrow height for your car, that is measured from the centre of the wheel to the top of the guard.

i wish they went on the 100mm rule i would be able to go lower on my daily and be legal :P

I have an '02 R50 fitted with SPAX Coil Overs and Springs. Choose the height you want and also adjust the rebound on each corner. Adjusting the rebound takes around 5 mins for the 4 corners but the ride height adjustment takes around 40 mins and is easiest with the wheels off. :D

id be careful putting lowered springs in an early mini cooper as the driveshafts will be at a diff angle and when i did it to mine there was heaps of vibration noise because the shafts had bedded themselves in at a certain angle and when lowered they were at a diff angle causing all the vibration. if its just a subtle drop it might be ok. a low milage car might be ok to. just something to think about warranty wise.
