Post subject: | R50 power steering |
I have a 04 R50 Cooper here at the moment that keeps loosing the power steering pump as its getting hot. Can anyone tell me if the fan it has operates all the time or only when it gets to a curtain temp? It is currently not working at all and as far as i can tell all the fuzes are ok. Any help appriciated. |

Save a few bullets for yourself. The fan only operates once the upper temperature limit has been reached. Can't recall the exact temp, but it's far lower than the failure limit of any power steering system. Pardon me for asking, but how the Fuchs do you overheat a power steering pump? |

It sits 2 inches under the exhaust header. |

Mines doing the same, it's going in next week for repairs... Fun... Also I think maybe because it's an electric pump it gets hotter easier? |

yeah i have done alot of them, you have to make sure the fan under the pump is working as they can pick up dirt and stones as they are mounted under the car, if they do stop then the pump can overheat and start failing. another sign i have seen is they start getting louder than normal and feel a bit grinding when turnin they also had a prob with the wiring harnes to the pump, it is routed under the battery box and they use to rub and and short out. |
