Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has looked at options for getting rid of the run flat tyres. Does anyone know if a space saver spare from another car would fit? I'm not a fan of the run flats, and not really keen on just carrying tyre mousse.

Thoughts?

Why aren't you a fan of the run flats? are they to noisy or to expensive to replace?

From my limited knowledge, expensive and very little choice/range. I'm also dubious of the performance options.

Now I will say, that this is just stuff I've heard, and I did hear it a long time ago (like when the new minis first came out). I'm happy to hear other peoples opinions if this is no longer the case.

I've only just bought the car, and it will need tyres in 3 to 6 months, so I'm just starting to look around at options.

one of the best things you can do is get rid of the run flats, carry a can of goo, 12v pump & tyre repair plugs.

All very well when I'm driving, but the missus drives this car most days. She's not the roadside repair kind of girl. Actually, having said that, I'm assuming I'd be called out even to change a tyre anyway so I guess there's no difference??

Anyone know what the RTA's position on this is? If I just change to normal, non-runflat tyres, will I pass rego with the abovementioned kit? Or if the car comes from the factory with the runflats, do I need to keep them?

I'd recommend just keeping them. The ride and handling are good enough for most drivers with the run flats. The only downside is the cost to replace them, which would be justified if you're going to replace a full set anyway.

They did do well in the Dakar. Just fit normal tyres and carry some tyre sealer crap, after all, how often do you get a flat? That's all my Smart car had in it.
