Post subject: | Problems with the New Mini ?? |
Hi all Has anybody had any problems or faults with the New Mini ??? The first one I have had is the fuel gauge sensors dying and the gauge giving me false results. ( This took 5 months to work out what the problem was & to get it fixed) The second is the reverse gear not engaging properly on a cold start. If your not careful it will grind away. Also after reading through a few threads, Poki has posted that: Quote: The warranty is shockingly bad. 2 years standard with an option to buy a third year. I have been told that you can extend the warranty on the Mini indefinitely, as long as you continue to pay a fee for it (Between $600 to 900) a year. Has anyone else been told this? Cheers ![]() |

They truly are minis. Grinding, don't like cold starts, problems that take for ever to fix. I've seen a couple of them on tow trucks before, no damage. |

I know the 2002 models had a few probems that were ironed out on later models, nothing to worry about though. If you want to get more info I would suggest contacting clubMINI Qld and the other members will give you as much help as they can www.clubmini.com.au and go to the qld section. Cheers Jason |

Not to drag people away from this fine forum but mini2.com is a wealth of information on BINIs. Go here for the forum and here for the faults and fixes section and here for the aussie social section. As to the warranty, I have only ever been told that the warranty could be extended for one year and the MINI assist could be extended up to seven years. Cheers, poki |

Thanks Guys. I originally checked all the way through MINI2.com but could not find any fixable fault for the fuel guage. After 5 months the mechs finally found the fault after changing the tank sensor 2 times, instument cluster & software with no success. The problem was that the computer kept saying that the left hand side fuel tank sensor / carrier was faulty........it wasnt, it was the right hand side sensor that was stuffed....DOH! Ive looked into the 3 year warranty on the car too and if it does expire it wont make much differance, as it is just another insurance policy for the car that covers mechanical repairs. I can get an Insurance broker to renew this for me if BMW does not want to do it. (you can allso get this for the older mini's too.The car just has to be worth more that 3k) As for the gear box ill just take it easy on her untill the next service, its more annoying than anything and not a real problem. ![]() |

our fuel guage was faulty when we picked our car up. Not that we knew it. On day 2, with 108KM left on the Range guage, it just stopped. Just as it drudged to a miserable hault 30 KM west of goulburn, the fuel light graced us with its presence for the first time! Ours is a July 02, though, and it was fixed by replacing the sender unit. never recurred, and i haven't heard of it being a common fault. Haven't hear that gearbox fault either, although the clutches can be dodgy, particularly the hydraulics. Reverse is the only one without syncro, so you sure its not just the clutch not disengaging properly until the fluid warms up a bit? Sometimes I think someone told a BMW engineer to build a car as much like the old Mini as he could. But alas, try as he might he just couldn't get as many rattles, glitches, quirks and gremlins into he car as the specifications required. But then - eureka. a breakthrough. Get it built in England! |
