howdy

Does anyone know of a kit that you can get to stiffen the car for making a convertible. I have heard talk of welding metal on to the bottom of the car between the subframes but that seems messy and heavy. I was wondering if you could get some sort of internal setup, like a roll cage but obviously not visible from above. do you guys think it could be done without welding the doors.

maybe newbie questions but i have searched on the web and in here and cant find the answer.

I remember a Mini world where a guy had made up a kit for making a chop top. It come with the strenghthening frame and some other stuff. But, of course, he's in England.

Yeh i believe it was a 'Bantham' or 'Bantam' Roadster that was in MiniWorld last year - the guy was apparently selling the kits for it which included a strengthening frame and had a pic of the frame in the article.
Hmm dont remember the issue though - Anyone else know?

yeah there is an article in the news about the banham guy and rally sport replicas. Cant remember it properly, something about them buying him (Them) out. I guess i could use the strengthening kits but they are supposedly super heavy.

Unfortunately, its damn near impossible to find diagrams or details of the box sections that are used in these convertables.

I've spent months searching everywhere from "Lamm" to "Panam" to "Banham" with stuff-all success, which means theyve had to be designed from scratch. I can guarantee the car wont flex, but it wont be much lighter than a normal mini.

My roadster is basically getting full length rails welded under the car, AND new box section welded inside the cabin along the sills between the front and rear wheel arches, AND box sections up the pillars. This is because i have NO intention of fitting roll bars to the car. Theyre just plain ugly.

I'll see if i can get some pictures of the steel work that is getting fabricated to put up here for ya.

I wasn't talking about a full roll cage more like roll cage bottom sections that joined together or maybe even to the stainless hoops you NEED if you are making a roadster

you'll definitely need head protection incase it flips,
those seat braces that go over the head (like in replica) are a beaut

We do things a bit differently here in Adelaide....

For starters, my roadster is a 63 or 64 morris..... which means legally it does not require seatbelts or a roll hoop, just a full length chassis. So naturally, its NO belts for me then!!!! If the car rolls, i'll be thrown well clear of the car.... which seems a whole lot better than being crushed by it.

But hey, i'm just plain stupid...... and proud of it.
