Anyone have any info or experience on this conversion. Is it worth the money over the rubber cone type?
Im setting up for Tarmac racing and looking to upgrade from the sagged 850 cones.
Car is currently running Koni adjustable(yellows) and im looking for an upgrade from here.
Thanks for any help in advance

I was looking into doing this conversion. I saw the price around $700 for the springs. I went to local spring companies which could make them cheaper but still the rubber cones work well and have worked well through out the whole mini's rally and racing career. After looking into it the money spent really could be used in better ways.

The good thing about the rubber is when it is compressed it becomes harder (creates more resistance) which is really what you want! i think.

As long as you have good rubber cones then you would be fine.

Thats my opion anyay.

This is correct the coil springs are single rate, whereas the shape of the cone and the trumpet turn the rubber cone into a differing rate spring. If you want to change the spring rates changing to a coil spring and adjustable dampers is probably your best option. Although at $700 you would want to get it right first time

Have you considered the coil over shockers with a rear space frame?

That removes the cones and is cheaper- if you get coil overs cheap

I guess it also all depends on what class of racing you want to try as well, any historic class won't let you run any sort of coil springs so check the regulations first.

We fitted springs into a mates rover and they were very good gave a much better ride and improved handling.
You must get the right ones though the road one are much too soft and the car gets too much body roll. The race ones are the ones to use, you will have to fit uprated shockers as well some thing like Gaz, Bilsten, Spax or Koni because springs have no dampening like a rubber cone.

Did you find these much firmer than the rubber cones?
I already have Koni yellow adjustables.

The ride was smoother than rubber cones a lot of the harsh bumpyness was taken out and improved the way the car went around corners because the tyre stayed in better contact with the road, body roll was the same as rubber cones.
The springs came from an import car so unsure what grade they were but they were yellow so I quess they are the race ones from minitastic
