Hi everyone,

My mini's fuel gauge is completely wrong these days and I was wondering if anyone know if a unit that I could stick on my fuel line to monitor fuel throughput and display it on a digital readout on the dash? I guess it could also show fuel economy too.

Also,

what is the go with the halogen light conversion kits on ebay (around $60); are they that much better than the original lights? And is it a legal mod?

Thanks!

Don't know about fuel flow monitors, but H4 conversions are well worth it, especially coupled with relays. They are legal as long as you don't go too bright with the H4 globes. You can actually reduce the wattage of the globes you use (compared to standard) and still get more light.

I have illegally bright ones in my Moke and they make a massive difference on the highway at night, you can actually see stuff before you run it over.

Instantaneous fuel consumption isn't a very useful thing to know. You use more accelerating and climbing hills, you use less coasting and going down hills, but it's irrelevant unless you know how far you've gone. So it would need to be tied to your speedo. But even then, it doesn't tell you anything. It needs to be averaged over a longer distance, at least 50km, to tell you something useful, to tell you how your engine is performing or how you're driving. Which means you need a proper processor to perform the calculations and display it, in the manner of a modern car.
