Does anyone have any pics or information on installing an electric water pump on a mini?

There is a lot of talk about them being on miglia minis but doesn't seem to be any kits around.

ie how where to mount them, adapters for the old pump mount etc....

I fitted one to my clubman when they were first released, was pretty good

remove the pump and make up a plate with an outlet in its place
I used a radiator from an AE82 corolla tucked in behind the grill (the pump went where the rad normally sits and the stock rad didnt work behind the grill)

I used various bits of radiator hose and alloy pipe to plumb it all

overall I think it was a pretty good mod, gave it a fair bit more power at the wheels and didnt get hot ever

whats the advantages over the mechanically driven ones. I mean just buy a high flow impeller water pump and you'll be sweet. the mechanical ones have worked for half a century. the electric ones would be more expensive, and probably more prone to breaking down...just my view... yes im a cheap arse

Yep fair call about the mechanical pumps.

This is for a dedicated race car. The water pump does a fine job until the race is over, then due to decreased revs, water flow slows down and I get a lot of heat soak into the block. Therefore if i go electric, revs don't come into the equation, another bonus is a bit more horsepower!!

I could make a plate up but was just curious to see some pics on what other people have done. No point trying to re-invent the wheel.

With the miglias, cost is not usually a major consideration so many run Meziere pumps and custom blanking plates with the pump mounted as low as possible.

Others have just removed the impeller from the standard water pump and blocked the shaft hole, and used a variety of Bosch/FIAT/etc pumps with a lot of success for less $$$. Thermostat needs to come out too, ideally replaced by an electronic controller.

Of course they use front mounted radiators & thermo fans for better cooling too, so no need for a crank driven fan.

the miglias also dry deck the head - ie all the water galleries between the block and head are blind plugged in each. The water then flows into the block at the hole where the pump used to be, out of the welch plug hole above the flywheel housing and into the head through a hole made in the end of it, then out to the radiator through the normal thermostat hole.

all this to say that the miglia guys are doing a bit more than kjust adding an electric water pump
