err
This makes me laugh. Where do you think they sent the convicts before they sent them to OZ?

hee hee,,, yep the whole world is now full of "Pohmy" conbicts,,, soon they`re gonna shove the next batch of "Pohmy" convicts on the moon :-)

What`s even more Funny is that they (The Phoms) came over here & basically "Stole" the land off the "Natives"

i`ll be ordering a set of 4x "American convict racer tires" for the hillclimb special very shortly

:-)

Hi All
Tested the NEW Americian race tyres today at wakefield on Dave Wheatley Mini ,the tyres worked very well the car was a lot more stable than before and excellent under brakes, he can now brake later and stop the car for the same entry speed to the corner, they now have more grip as the tyre does not move around as much when loaded up.
the tyres on my car were just wearing smooth as there was very little grip on the circuit to day but Daves tyres were graining up right across the tyre and becoming very sticky.
i think they are a big improvment on the old tyre for track work, the new stiffer side wall is working very well and for the price they are a bargin.
It was very hot down there today round 40 deg not a nice day for testing(i was running yoks)

Hi Matt
No you can not buy them off max because he's the hoosier man.
If you want the really soft ones as we spoke about before for hill climbs Lindsay has some of thoes or you can get them direct from americian race tyres, but as you know when cross ply tyres are made no mater what brand they can't hold the same diameter all the time thats why when you fit them to the rims you may find you wind up with different heights not good for front wheel drive with power on, the four David got this time were all very close to the same dia with in 3mm.
lindsay made up a dummy wheel, pumps them up and checks them for height so you have some thing very close to being the same if not spot on,not sure on the price of the new ones yet but they were around $130 ea.

A query for those using American Racer Tyres -
Are there left and right handed tyres ? A fellow Mini competitor at a round of the State Hillclimb Championship was using these tyres for the first time on his Historic Group Nc Cooper S. The car was pulling to the left and when we examined the tyres we noticed that the diagonal cuts across the tread surface run in the same direction on both the left and right hand side.
On the driver's side tyres the diagonal tread grooves first contact the road on the inner part of the tyre, while on the passenger side the groove first contacts the road on the outer part of the tyre. Just like in this picture:

Changing tyres around on the rim won't alter the situation - nor will switching wheels from one side to the other. We presumed that this design was for specifically for speedway racing, but would like some clarification of the situation from others using these tyres.
The 'pulling-to-the-left' characteristic wasn't evident when the American Racer tyres were replaced with a set of Hoosiers, so the tyres were definately linked to the problem - although it could be a problem with differing tyre circumferences too.
I'd also like to know how GR managed to fit these tyres under the non-flared guards of an Nb Cooper S without them fouling shockers or trailing arms as well as keeping them under the guards. They are considerably wider than either the 165/70/10 Yokies or Hoosiers.

Hi Curly
The problem with the car pulling to the left was due to the tyres being different in height which i spoke about earlier about in this thread.
All cross ply tyres vary in height you have to find two that are close to the same height, you'll find that hoosiers are normally marked on the side of the tyre with the height of the tyre in inches as are the americian racers, as for fitting them on the car you just have to fiddle a little bit, they do allow mini's to run with tyres out side the body work, ( within reason) 8)

The only 10" tyres listed are 'Microsprint', and I believe they are all treaded types.
See the size list here:
