G'Day all,
I will try to explain this, I am a novice so please bare with me.
I have a 998 bored to 60thou and recently done a head gasket. The head gasket blew between the two middle cylinders. Due to the firing of each cylinder pushing into the one next to it, there is a scratch between the two cylinders on the block as well as the head. I am getting the head machined. The scratch on the block can only just be felt as you run a light finger nail over the affected area.

Without taking out the engine, is there any way to 'fill in' the scratch on the block to minimise problems that the scratch may cause?

I have heard of using a bit of araldite between the block and the gasket where the scratch is. I also understand that without doing a proper job on the block to get rid of the scratch I am only delaying the inevitable.

Is it a scratch, or a crack (more likely)?
If it's just low there the block needs to be decked to clean up, and yes it has to come out. It's too hot there for Araldite, the 2 exhaust valves are next to it.
If it's a crack, you are looking at another block.

see if it goes over the corner into the bores. If so = crack.

Hey guys,
I cannot post a picture as the head is back on (after machining). My Clubbie is at reputable mini mechanic and he has done what he could without removing the engine and skimming the block flat. I have assurances that it is not cracked and I should not experience any further issues (because of the scratch). When I did inspect the damage, the scratch did not come close to extending into or over the lip of the bore.
The next time I need to have the engine out (hopefully many many months from now) I will have the engine block skimmed just to be on the safe side.

Get my mini back late tomorrow afternoon - woot!
