I think this would be a HUGE problem... It's a whole lot of hassle and money just to fit an intake for a total gain of 7ft/lb (that's what the difference betweeen a Russell Engineering 5.25" intake is over a FULLY ported redline 3.5inch intake.

My box cost me about $200(?) for Grieg at Mini Classic to cut and weld in place. I was sick of the hole being there, the firewall needed attention to begin with (rust and flakey paint), plus it's great for sound insulation!

Food for thought

More food- make sure whoever welds the box in there also sorts the wiring underneath- eh Chong.

why not just adjust the angle of the inlet manifold on on both ends +5 on one end and -5 on the other end. You could also shave 5mm off both ends of the flanges

Not sure this would grant you enough room (not sure what filters you plan on running)

But could you bolt your firewall hole cover from the inside?
It looks like a terribly heavy guage of steel, could gain a few precious millimeters by bolting it from the inside..

Common sight. See the manifold flanges touching the carb? and the flange that touches the head. Those two can be machined so that the carb angles up slightly, slight enough to clear the ramflo.

Also there are several offsets of Ramflos. You want a RF 445P1S I think where P1 designates that the carb plate face is offset downwards slightly, meaning that the throttle holes are at the bottom of the plate rather than the middle. This gives you more room.

But yeah even with all of this we are talking mm of clearance and I remember having to use BFH surgery to create clearance.

As said, after awhile I just got fed up and put in a box. Hassle free now!

Nope he needs a R445 P5S Ramflo, not a P1S... But the pic looks like it is one already.
When I previously screwed some colorbond steel onto my firewall, I did belt a dish into it at the bottom for more room.
Why not fit an early Clubby cover plate, they are dished already for clearance. Chrome the bugger if you must. :P
