Hi All
I have developed a new cam grind for the minis it is based on the MK1 cooper S grind which is a very good cam to start with,It has the same duration as the MK1 well almost 1deg smaller because we have used a much softer ramp to open the valve making it eazier on valve gear the cam has excellent low down torque and throttle responce but makes more power and drives away from idle like a std cam.
Here are some figures taken from the lobe not the valve
.015 -1deg
.020 +1
.050 +4
.100+5
.150+10
.200+15
and has a larger nose radius the wipe across the lifter .769 the std S is .759 the dia of the lifter is .812 but because the lifters have a radius or chamfer on the edge of about .020 that only leaves around .790 to wipe across before getting off the edge of the lifter so it's safe on a std lifter.
The exhaust runs little more duration than the inlet as does the std S but it does run about .010 more lift the ex durations are bigger than std by the same amount as the inlet

Hi. Do you have a designation for this new cam yet? Is it available for A+ cams?

Jim

hey GR good work on the cam.
do you have any comparisons to other cams eg, power torque fuel consumption, and is there any engine parts required, or recommended to improve its potential? eg different carbs, exhaust, valves?

HI Ranger 89
I have'nt done any dyno work with this cam as yet the reason being i wanted a cam that would drive like a std cam yet make a bit more power, some people dont want to go to the sports cams where power does not come in till 2500/ 3000 rpm and the only way to try this is in a car, both Greig (mini classic) and my self were suprised how well the cam pulled away from idle it feels like it has a lot more torque and excellent throttle responce which is what we are trying to achieve,Greig being my biggest critic on my camshafts so if i can please him i'm doing good.
the cam should make around 7/9 ft lbs of torque more than the std cam which makes it ideal for a std cam replacement, or some one that wants to run twin hs2 or a single hs4 with a cleaned up head and a good exhaust system.
you must remember as soon as you put more duration in a cam you raise the point at which the cam starts to work thats why i kept the same duration as the MK1 cooper S which is a good cam i just made it a bit better, yes i will do some testing with it on the dyno when i have a chance.

This "drives away from idle" has my interest.

Another part to put on my wish list.

GR has this motor together, and has started to write an article about this motor and the different Cams. Go check the website as he works through the build.
