look i put a 2.76 in my 1100 and it doesnt slow down up hills. all u do is put ur foot down slightly and up she goes. i went to bathurst this year and my mini went up the stepest hills in 4th and didnt slow down. i dont no why everyone is saying that a 2.76 will die going up hills? come and see me and ill prove it.

It would take a special small block to go up hills as easily as you are saying..

My engine is 1152cc, 12G295 Head, Electronic Distributor, Lightened Flywheel, RE-13 Cam, 40mm Dellorto on a 5" redline manifold and it makes about 45-50HP at the wheels (about the same as a cooper S makes - so 75HP)

Out of three dyno days so far, no small block has cracked over 50HP.

So we can establish that 50HP is a fairly hight state of tune that one could reasonably expect from a modified small block. With that much power I struggle up hills in 4th, and to get that much power out of a small block you need a wild cam which wont come on song until at least 3000rpm.

Now there are very special small blocks out there making 90HP+ ie. GR's Small Block project, but this is not the norm.

I'm not saying your engine doesn't, but i'm skeptical and would like to see a dyno graph of the power it's making cause you'd need some serious power to put your foot down 'slightly' to go up hills, especially with a 2.76fd

i dont know what you call "sweet going up hills in forth", but i think your definition of sweet is the equivalent of my definition of slow

I too am skeptical. My 1330 has trouble. I need a big run up to get a big hills in fourth. Just because it runs nice and it feels 'fast' doesn't actually mean it's quick, so a few things. 1. Define a hill. 2. Define 'sweet in 4th gear' and 3. Do you catually have a 2.76 or wateva or did the last owner tell you? - I do believe you do tho, but I have to be sure. I think you need to do a hillclimb and compare it to another mini or similiar spec but with lower final drive.

depends on the motor, depends on the tune - those high performance small bores make all their torque at high revs, maybe the motors that are pulling well up hills make better torque down low than those screamers... due to a smaller lift in their cam giving increased port velocities etc.

you can't bag it till you've driven it ;)

yes i no that my car has a 2.76 because i put it in and i no my car has quiet a bit of power. the hills im talking about arnt mountains but if u have ever driven into sydney from gosford my car didnt drop any speed from 100 at anytime on the freeway. my 1100
is bored 60thou lightened and balanced bottom end a 12g295 head ported and polished head with big valves, cooper s police spec cam, roller rockers, electronic ignition, 10.1 compression, extractors with 2 inch free flow exhaust. anyone that wants to have a turn in thr car is quiet welcome i want to justify what ive been saying. it isnt a bullet of the line but it is so nice cruising along at a hundred and being able to talk to the passenger. lol :D :D :D

you know that there are 998 motors in the uk for mini se7en race cars that push 100bhp n/a, which is rediculous power, but then probably wouldnt last long in a road car

Thats it Matt I'm taking you up on the offer :P

Just joking but you could take me for a spin next time we are both at millsies, so I can see what your cam is like as we have this in one of our motors and I wanna see what it will do.

Oh by the way it's Harley

Thats the key here people, we aren't all talking about the same hill.
My mini used to go up the hills in perth in fourth without chugging down. Would even accelerate if i was lucky lol. That 7kms worth of hill.
The Gti mini, pulls up same hill in fifth, no dramas.
