Gafmo is a convert today, we stuck a D4R85 into Morris. Kept the Bosch GT40R (1.5 ohm) coil and binned the resistor.
Firing the NGK Iridium ($$$) plugs at .040" gap, no wuckin' furries!

Awesome.

I wanna test the '85 in my 1098 before it goes into the 1275 I'm having built. Is this going to do any damage to my 1098 given that the advance of the 85 is more suited to the big bore engines?

Actually it has less total advance in it than the D4R83 has. No you won't hurt it. Yours probably has 10-11* weights in it, this has 12*. Pretty much the same.
We didn't hook up the vac can as it had a leak, no matter- it still goes like a scalded cat.

Booya. Just got it all going. Set the spark plug gaps to 40 adjusted the advance by ear after static timing it to 1st cylinder TDC. My mate has a jazzy timing light so we'll hit it with that tonight. Everything looks the goods...

I noticed it changed the tone of the engine a bit.

What are the chances of me being able to hook up my smiths Tacho with with this electronic dizzy?

I'm running a Smiths in Barney with a D4R83. Seems to work OK, but NFI whether it's accurate or not.

I've tried to set this guage up before but failed... its got 3 spade connectors on it.

Code:

The top one is marked Black (-VE). Bottom left is Red(+VE), Bottom rigth is marked Trigger Blue.

Any ideas how they correspond to the hitachi dizzy connections? I'm guessing the Black

Any ideas how they correspond to the hitachi dizzy connections? I'm guessing the Black goes to the negative side of the coil, the red goes to the positive side of the coil & where would the trigger go?

I'd say + is +12V, - is ground, trigger is to the blue (-) Pulsar wire on the coil.
I think... at least that's how my Fiat 124S one in Mini-Ha-Ha works.

<edit> having electronic dizzy doesn't change the way tach is connected. I put dizzy in Mini Mad's and a few others, tachs all still worked.

OK I've established now after changing the speedo, that Barney's Smiths tach is not reading consistently with the Pulsar dizzy.
Stocko 998 and I saw over 7000... no I don't think so..
Anybody suggest some wiring mods, before I eBay it and buy something S/H and European that works? 8)

Doc, Is the Smiths tacho is the type that the wire from the dizzy to the coil runs via the tacho?
If it is don't bin it! I need it for my historic formula Vee!

Get yourself a VDO!

I think it's near new, so probably the later type one.
I'll lift its skirts in the morning for a look..

Yeah I do like VDO.. but there are other options. My red Mini runs a 30 year old Fiat 124S one, it has no problems with the Pulsar dizzy. 8)
