if you have an LSD in a road car will it be REALLY undriveable or just take a bit of getting used to?
It depends a lot on the type of lsd and how tightly they are set up. I'm used to the Quaife and it's one of the gentlest types, it tends to tramline if the road has ridges or uneven surfaces, it accentuates the torque steer as well, and you generally need to drive with both hands on the wheel in case some uneven patch of road drags the Brick suddenly to the right or left. The way the car is set up with front and rear suspension geometry plays a part here as well. Competition orientated Minis are often twitchy and nervous anyway, the lsd just makes them more so.
Of course like most things automotive, it's all to do with compromise - If you want a Mini with race car handling, you sacrifice some of the drivability and comfort around town.
Find somebody near you with a proper race Brick and ask them to take you for a ride, it might help you to decide where to draw the line.
