my priority for the moment is road...with less competition...then swinging more over to competition as time goes on...if you have an LSD in a road car will it be REALLY undriveable or just take a bit of getting used to?

It depends a lot on the type of lsd and how tightly they are set up. I'm used to the Quaife and it's one of the gentlest types, it tends to tramline if the road has ridges or uneven surfaces, it accentuates the torque steer as well, and you generally need to drive with both hands on the wheel in case some uneven patch of road drags the Brick suddenly to the right or left. The way the car is set up with front and rear suspension geometry plays a part here as well. Competition orientated Minis are often twitchy and nervous anyway, the lsd just makes them more so.
Of course like most things automotive, it's all to do with compromise - If you want a Mini with race car handling, you sacrifice some of the drivability and comfort around town.
Find somebody near you with a proper race Brick and ask them to take you for a ride, it might help you to decide where to draw the line.

I had a 3.44 in the old 1310 until I seized it- but the 1360 I've now got has a 3.647. (Mini-K).
Gears are still Mk2 S and it definitely has more urge now on the shift to 4th.
On the freeway at 115KMH it uses a few more revs (now ~5000) but for what I use it for (around town use & track work) it's perfect. 8)

I have all of the above set ups and have used them all on road cars.
LSD (jack knight MK6) is a good diff but would not reccomend it for the road as its a 2 hand sttering job and foot down thru corners to keep it going thru corners or it will just go straight (as i found out).

Cross pin diff (twin pin or 4 pin diff) is really good and strong as the mini miglia guys use them due to the ban on LSD's in there class and they push 140hp all the time so 100hp should be able to handle it, also you dont get cornering issues and drives like a normal mini.

Hardened diff pin is what i use on all my mini motors from std to 1380 as they are really strong and dont give grief, but if your wheel spinning from every set of lights and racing on weekends i might say it will take a bit of a beating but i havent broken one yet.

rebuild your gearbox and use stright cut drop gears this will eleiminate a lot of the laod areas on the 'easy to wear places' as for the box competition lay shaft new bearings and hope it will all hold together, you shouldnt have no issues, just remember to use original baulk rings as you will find out the cheaper ones are cheap.
