JAM, used to work for QANTAS? You'll enjoy these then.....

Heard 'em allllll before. Very amusing though

QANTAS had that aircraft run off the end of the runway and got bogged. I had to do a lot of the repair work on the engines that came off it. It was in Bangkok or Singapore...can't remember now.

re: powdercoating....$70 ea is CHEAP!

Bangkok, I was living in Singapore at the time and spent a fair bit of time in Thailand for work. I remember the incident well.

All aircraft run a IFF transponder(esp passenger jets) but a target radar - is there something you qantas guys arent telling us here...lol. the 747-400 runs a variant of the APG-66 radar (remember when we had skyhawks!!...lol) but all it is good for is weather tracking and avoiding big, solid rocky things...

Remember, QANTAS is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

Wrong! Qantas has had fatal accidents on more than one occasion.

True they had fatal accidents before and during WW2, but as i understand it, they are yet to kill a paying passenger, and certainly have not done so since WW2.

Anodise alloy/ally - an electrolytic coating that uses the alloys natural ability to form a non porous surface layer, but in a controlled manner and any pretty colour you like :D

If you prepare a surface properly any modern paint system, whether it be a single pack epoxy, or a 2 pack epoxy, or a 2 pack urethane will stick like you would not believe. some are more flexible than others - consult the tech sheets available from the manufacturer. One thing about 2 pack urethane is that you MUST use a spray booth because the hardener contains di-isocyanate which is one of the nastiest of all nasties. it strips all your mucous membranes and corrodes them, then it poisons you and long term low dose exposure will give you cancer  luckily there are some newer non isocyanate urethane coatings, but they are generally industrial paints without much gloss.

I just painted all the pedals, radiator brackets and cowl, and some other bits and bobs using a can of etch primer and black kill rust from the white knight range. Seems to work ok. hell of a lot cheaper than $150
