I can't be bothered to read articles.

When I purchased mine, the ratio options were for race cars. The effect of changing the primary gear tooth is the same/similar to changing diff ratio. If I get a chance I might buy a taller one for E-Creek if I ever go racing there.

It is easier to change than a diff as the engine generally would have to be removed for a diff ratio change but not for a primary gear, hence more attractive to Mini se7en etc who are mechanic/owner/driver.

Cheers

Daniel

Yep 1:1,

I have a tall 1st gear which makes it a b!7(h to drive on the street, but on the track it's ok.

That's why I said I would go taller at E-Creek, it's a much higher speed circuit than the others and would benefit from a higher top speed. I can only do ~200 before rpm limiter atm. It don't sound fast but in the car it's s$!t scary.

Be careful with g'box ratios (overall) for street driven cars. Being able to do 240+ might sound like a good idea but I doubt there are many places (circuits) that you would get there.

Yeah definitely.
My gearbox ratios are that of any other road Mini... (gearbox bits are from 1.3i)
Not sure if I should stick with helicals...
I am obsessed with the straight cut sound, and the vehicle will be my weekend warrior.
I am trying very hard to decide

Also I believe I need the A+ drop gears (if I do go SC), as they have a different number of teeth to the A...

You need to buy whole set, it's not the teeth number - the important thing I recall is the size of idler bearing, later ones are bigger I think, or something about the idler is bigger.

It's not the same "scream of death" though. My favourite is the toothed belt drive to alternator. Tension using big bar to load the crap out of alternator bearings and you get this great blower type whine. Alternators last about 2-3 weeks and my mate who was doing this thought the 2nd handies he was getting from wreckers were no good!

To be brutally honest willy, buy a house. If I had've at your age I would be 100G's better off by now.

210 is what $500-550 + freight + inport duty or GST whatever, for a sound? Send your head to Graham and get him to do a cam as well, may cost you a bit more but at least it will be worthwhile power increase, SC drops I doubt you would even notice.

I'm trying to have some fun... while I can.
I think i'll start to get 'boring' at the age of 21... cos I doubt i'll be able to support mortgage repayments, and an expensive hobby.

On a brighter note, GR will be assembling my motor.

He has done the head.
Crank is wedged (big J A+)
Rods are lightened
Flywheel is amazing, as is backing plate 8)
Bore is 40thou.
Gearbox is rebuild
Diff is Tran-x cross pin

It should go quite well...

Ok, we are getting a bit off topic but you buy and rent out, payments on a 250g's mortgage less rent should be under 1k/month.

Motor sounds like a good combo too! Have to bring for next dyno day!

PS - My flywheel is dead std. shhhhh. Why? Cause I'm waiting for Graham to make me a steel one!

If you want to get the first home buyers grant you have to live in the place for at least the first 12months. So you'd have to rent cash in hand dodgy, or live and pay mortgage.

Same rules as NSW, must be occupied with 12 months of purchase or completion (if new) for a minimum of 6 months. My cousin purchased a rental house (it already had a tenant) and after 11 months he moved in. He lived in it for 6 months then rented out again. Perfectly legal. He owns a 10sec C'dore that is naturally aspirated. He built this after the house purchase.

Houses double in price every 7-10 years.

Again, sorry to hijack willy, but I hope you young guys see my point, I have friends that own 4 houses at 30, not mortgaged, own. I have 1 house that is costing me alot in repayments at the moment. Even going to MDU was almost overlooked due to finance. If I had bought a house 5 years ago my mortgage repayments would be half what they are now.....bigger turbo etc is going to have to wait

End of lecture

Cheers

Daniel
