Very possible to beat a starlet conversion with one of these or indeed even a 5port a-series turbo would have a go of a stock 4EFTE in a mini. They are both 1.3L turbo motors.

Even in a highly strung N/A state there would be plenty of power to be had 150-180+HP but it's still not going to last as long as the toyota donk.

You are also at the upper end of what the A-series is capable of, whereas the 4EFTE making that much power is relatively unstressed.

true! lets say you had a fairly stock standard starlet motor with 7 psi boost, same againwith the a series only mods were to accept the turbo and one of these heads, it would be interesting, but once again the design of a better bearing, heated surfaces and gringing surfaces would win this race

Don't forget the geartrain. The A-series drop gear and gearbox is going to struggle at that level of power, where the Jap 'boxes are more likely to take it without imploding..

you will probably be able to use them in some forms of historic motorsport whereas a starlet conversion would be verboten...

well yea a-series is quicker to install, cheaper and easier.

but you'd end up with something better if you took the time money and effort to install a modern engine.

What and go without the A-series bark?
Never!

And A-series oil leaks complete me.

havin g never owned a cross flow conversion, is the noise the A-series engine makes changed into something more modern by the non-siamesed ports and efficient designs?

Ahhhh But an A series engine with a twin cam cyl head on it is STILL an A series engine :-)

It`s just that they go like stink & sound soooooo sweet :-) & are by far cheaper & easier than swapping the whole front of the car over to a late Jap engine & manufactured subframe assy etc etc etc

& it`s not that i dis-like jap engine swaps at all, so don`t get me wrong, each to their own for sure & i`d love to have one of each myself :-) dam heck i`ve even built a V8 powered mini,,, but it`s still essentially a mini,

BTW, my twin cam conversion kits are almost finished :-)
