i may be wrong here, (i often am) but i think cush is looking at doing a "square-ish" bore from an old 850 block like the one Deano (74snail) was talking about in another thread

so,,, if i`m right,,, then all this talk (typing) of re-bores & bore wear & why go bigger if it don`t need it etc etc etc,,, probably means nothing to Cush

??? yeah???

:-)

Good one "voice of reason"

And Doc,,, I agree with what your saying,, thats why I check

To be honest I think that the motor I was reffering to had very very low miles, the honing was still quiet vissable and there was no sign of it wearing on a bias... but I agree with what you are saying, it applies to pretty much anything with a longish stroke... esspecially if its one that came out of a 1979 moke made in june,,, there is a damn good chance the bastards bored it of square!!! I know of 2 mokes from that year and month that had this problem,, engine numbers were almost one after the other

But really now, back on track,,,

Cush if you are interested, you can order high compression 998 pistons from the UK, the dollar is pretty good at the moment. They still have a pretty good choice of dish size.... just a thought..

I'd put up the links but my damn computor is running to slow at the moment  maybe tomorrow... The ones I was looking at were from minispares and minispeed I think..

:D The Square 850 I was referring was made from a 998 A+ block, 850 thicktail crank, 998 pistons, deck the block ( alot ) , 12G295 head 22cc chambers, Metro A+ cam etc,etc a Square 850 is born, very similar to what is known in Europe as a Turbo 850 except no turbo, the owner took a lot of time with the measurements to get it right, a few problems but 50hp with strong torque and still with factory manifold and 1 1/4 SU make it worth the effort, and now there are plans for twin 1 1/2 SU's and 544 cam, be afraid be very afraid !

If you want more information, you will have to wait for the owner to post , if he wants to.
