It's a bit of a worry that people would be wanting to buy used leads...

Reminds me of someone I knew who bought used brake pads

Have just come across this "electronic ignition" setup, I'm assuming this so that we don't have cough n splutter issue when driving in the wet?

Might have look into this :-)

here's my how-to with all the detail Rohan... it's got all the looking you need ;)

not just to deal with driving in the wet - you throw away the distributor altogether.. means programmable control of ignition timing, no timing scatter from worn chains, distributor drive & shaft, bigger sparks...

Hey Mick, where are you quoting this from?

On another note, I will not be using the EDIS module. The MegaSquirt (MS) will be driving the EDIS coilpack directly bypassing the control module, the MS providing the coil drivers and software logic for this.

Its actually noted at the link with the individual parts descriptions. Most of the parts on the page are listed as 2nd hand.
http://www.boostengineering.net/category_s/1.htm

Nothing wrong with 2nd hand parts at all however. I use a lot of them myself as it turns out :P But its a long way to go for 2nd hand leads all the same..

in that case, I'd chuck the ford coilpack and find one that is a more convinient size!

The ford one is just easy to use because it comes with the EDIS module, but if you're not using that, then *swishing noise*

Mitsubishi / Hyundai would be the go

I've already got the EDIS 2nd hand coilpack, a brand new trigger wheel and VR sesnsor... ordered last Thursday night arrived this Monday morning from UK! :)

I want to keep all the variables in this project as small as possible, and since a lot of the expertise in FI the A series lies over in the UK, I don't want to be running stuff that they are unfamiliar with ie EDIS is the defacto wasted spark standard.

All I have to order/make/scrounge now is the fuel injection stuff, such as... fuel pump, fuel & return lines to tank, HIF44 adapter from patton machining, fuse & relay box plus lots of little things!

These Bosch are bloody good leads, mine are over 6 years old now and their resistance still measures as new (unlike many well known leads that just use a carbonized string core and go bad quick).

pfft, as Simon mentioned.... about 18months ago, I ran out of money... pretty much had the car half apart on Kevs driveway, wife calling me at 10pm yelling, me blocking in barney and 1/2 Kevs other cars and me saying, nah man, Edis will take me like 1 hour to install (what a goose) yes, I meant wire up the edis, wire up megajolt, install everything (Kev already did harmonic balancer but wasnt fitted)

Anyway, finally got it all together and wanted to start it up, Ben had some great leads he got made up by Mr Leads I think in Blacktown?
He's standing there, the next day (yeah yeah didnt finish that night) and we go around to Mr leads and a bunch of other places, cant find the ones we need... bummer.

Get back to the car and Ben and I shove em on... "try it" he says... 18months later... no sweat :) coil pack held onto the oil line with cable ties too.... she'll be right ;)

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter. I've bitten the bullet, and ordered 8 x clips (some spares). Will most probably mod my existing leads (to save money).

Tell us, do you notice much difference running the MegaJolt?

Cheers
Jim

Cant say... felt much better with the turbo lol
I ran it in so many configurations mate, all of them completely different.
Not intercooled and a Dizzy, Intercooled + dizzy, intercooled and EDIS, not intercooled and EDIS, etc etc.

For the Turbo setups, its a must I say... you can control your timing much more. Graham still cant believe what ridiculous timing my car wanted. Soooo much advance... and 1 degree wrong and it became a pig. crazy stuff.

I never thought about it on a N/A motor... but obviously has its benefits.

I ran normal points dizzy, pulsar dizzy recurved, etc.

Cheers,
Peter

Ben has a plug which was machined out, O-ringed and put in there, with a screw that holds it in place where the dizzy bracket screw holes are. Very very neat.

Me, meh, left the dizzy in there until I got around to it, but never did, sold the car 18months ago that way.

<edit> I think I read above that Simon (?) used a 1 3/8 welch plug... thats a quick, easy way!

Pete
