Lockie91 found out the hard way that 1.5 rockers and stock valve springs don't play well together. But the bloke who built the motor (in UK) obviously didn't know or care.
C-AEA526 springs work well with 1.5s, I use them in both my 1360 and the wife's 1412.

Don't forget to add .003" to the valve clearance when using 1.5 rockers.

yes I sure did... not pretty stuff guys..,, valve pushed into the cylinder head.. i had that same cam as you.. the BP300.. it was wayy to big

the C-AEA526 are whats in mine atm right doc?

The harder springs will sap more power out of your engine when compared to the 180s

funny you should post on this mate.. i was reading this thinking, i rekon the springs you had caused your cam to be ****ed...

If the roller ones are only hitting at the back you can slot the 2 holes in the cover forward 1mm or so, then push the cover back.
Otherwise as said, find one of the earlier sand cast ribbed Oz made covers, they have heaps of room.

yep, easy as. Did this and no problem at all.. My rockers didn't even hit on the alloy rocker cover, so I dunno why.. but once I found out I filled it down just to ensure.. no bends, dints, or signs of scratches :)

easy as... and looks much better, and no drama's :)

Cheers for all the replies guys. Was going to try fit them on Friday but my Dad needed a hand so the Mini got no love. Might have a go one afternoon this week if the weathers good.

Had a quick read through the service manual on removing the rockers and replacing. Basically the manual says

1 ) Drain coolant.
2 ) Loosen ALL head bolts/nuts in the correct order
3 ) Completely undo the 8 nuts/bolts holding down the rocker gear
4 ) Remove rocker gear
5 ) Replace rocker gear with shiny new stuff
6 ) Do up head bolts/nuts in correct order to correct torque
7 ) Check rocker clearances
8 ) Refill coolant
9 ) Drive away into the sunset

Does this sound about right?

Also, the rocker cover I have is just one of the standard pressed ones I got chromed up awhile ago. Any chance this is going to clear?

Cheers again,
Keels.

Nope the standard one you have definitely wont fit. It doesen't allow for the bigger rockers.. as meantioned above

You shouldn't have to drain the coolant if you dont want to. I guess it says to do that because it wants you to undo all head bolts, but, you dont have to touch the front head bolts, leave them in place, if your gentle, you can get away with leaving it in no drama's. This is how Dr mini and others told me how to do mine, when I did it, and no worries. Good as gold. So long as the engine is dead cold when you do it, then your fine.

Once you've done it all back up again, loosen the front head bolts off half a turn and re torque them. Good habbit to get into.

we have only recently fitted 2 totally different types of 1.5:1 ratio roller rockers to 2 different minis, both with std rocker covers & both fit fine without fouling anywhere

"Some" roller rockers obviously do fit with std rocker covers

suck it & see i say :-)

If your rocker cover doesn't quite make it, rather then get another cover you could just glue 2 gaskets together and look at that, it clears now.

I've found that it's not the height with mine, but with the front to back clearance....

That's why Doc says to file out the holes...... you naughty boy!
