I see then if it won't stick out and look ugly, how much to build a 200+hp twin cam turbo engine (including all machining)

Are you going to build it your self or pay some one to do it?

Meeni, have a look at this list TheMiniMan posted about building his 1litre NA motor:

TheMiniMan wrote:
& if you would like to add up it`s replacement value, then here you go-->
2nd hand 8V head--> $500
The conversion kit -->$1500
sleaves & fitting, rebore to .o8o", supply & mods to pistons (flycuts for valve reliefs) mods to block & head to make it all work -->$1500
oil pump, water pumps & engine bearings & thrusts & gaskets & seals & a couple of syncros & gearbox bearings & leyshaft, new clutch, cleaned out & modified radiator etc etc etc the list of fiddly things goes on & on, such as the oil filler & engine breathers & oil drains & oil feed hose to the cyl head , mini cam lobes ground off, etc etc etc ---> well over $1000, (more like $1500)
Power unit build labour cost would be at least -->$1000
Special Head gasket made to suit from Qld gaskets-->$220
Quad 40mm Bike carbs--> $300-$400
Manifolds to suit carbs--> over $100
Ram tubes from another bike, modified & fitted---> at least $100
New 4-into-1 Extractors $450
Dyno tune cost me --> $250 (& that was cheap), but could do with another now after fitting the ram tubes... & wouldn`t take long to fine tune it now, barely even needs playing with at all now it`s running so nice really but i`d still give it a bit more of a tickle to sweeten it even more

soooo,,, there you go,,, added up it`s way over $7000 worth & that`s not including the price of the entire power unit to start with.

Ad on top of that a gear box rebuild, the turbo, turbo manifold work, ecu, bigger bike head..

And you have a very expensive motor..

hee hee,,, yeah it costs about $20K for me to build you a complete turbo injected twin cam 1275cc or bigger power-unit package , inc gearbox/diff etc

but they certainly won`t make you say "Is that it"... more like Holy Faaarrrrkkkk what have i created!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, yet again, they are so smooth & drivable that anyone who hops into the car will have absolutely no idea that there is 200hp,,,, until you apply a little more pressure with the right foot,,, then Hang On :-)

John & Simon from Specialist Components in England have finally pushed past the 300hp mark now :-) & more people are following the same standard with these turbo twinkys shortly

we`re happy with our 167hp for road use tho,,, not much point for any more than that really,,, & yet if you want more--> then a simple switch to program #2 & you have way more boost with a tune program (fuel & injection maps) to suit & 200hp is on-tap

But,,, i must admit that if you just wanted a cheap, fast, easy option, then bung a lung onto a mini 5-port & you will have fast, cheap, easy power... just not as sophisticated or civilized,,, that`s all.

to me,,, insane, broad spread, usable, smooth power with"""Stealth""" is the way to go :-)
but that`s just me :-)

Mine is over the clutch and all is well.
A few in the UK too... the manifold that Ben makes sits behind the engine, a T2 would fit with room around it too.

I honestly think a T2 is too small on a 1300 though... imho.

It all adds up quick though.

Cheers,
Peter

T2 is a bit small for what I want.. What's the gt25 or something that the uk guys are talking about? I don't have 20 grand matt sorry.. I'm happy to pay for quality bits for the motor but I can't pay squillions for labour so il build it myself, and knowing many have built 5 porters with good power and life I think that's the go, it's also more familiar to me..

No, you cannot know what you will pay
But you can know a potential limit.

So currently we can assume your budget is up to $19, 999
With that information I would suggest you ask Matt Reid to build you a turbo twinky, and you'll owe him $1.

A ball park figure would go a long way in helping people suss out your options.
Be crazy, take a stab at what you think you can spare for the build.

Meeni, if you want to stay 5-port, then buy some quality valves & get GR to do you a nice head, then add one of his RE13T cams,,, chuck a GT2560 onto a custom manifold & with a bit of a hunt around the UK you should be able to pick up a turbo carb & manifold (i think i have a turbo inlet manifold here)

then bob`s your Aunty

make sure your gearbox is up-to-par

slip in a slippery diff

& away you go

it really don`t matter what size the bore is, i`d keep it fairly small tho, to keep rigidity & integrity in the bore walls

& obviously overhaul everything inside the thing, oil pump, lifters, crank & bearings, make sure you have some good con-rods, & make sure all your clearances are a little on the larger side & you`ll be fine

probably $10K-ish will suffice (((if you allready have the 1275 power unit to start with))))

& yes my Turbo Injected twinkys are not cheap, but as with anything you buy-->you get what you pay for

it`s all about having some fun in your brick hey???

& just so everyone is quite clear with me on this--> i`m not pushing my twinkys on anyone really,,, i`m way too busy building 8 of them at the moment so i couldn`t take another one on for another 3 or 4 years anyways
