Don't think anyone mentioned a leak down test. If you have access to compressed air, it's a good test. I made a tester for about $20 last year, not hard to do.

Yep, easy as, a standard 1/2" male airline fitting, a length of mild steel pipe, and a spark plug. Gut the spark plug, braze about 150mm of pipe the same diameter as the inside of the spark plug on, and braze on the airline fitting. Done. Takes all of half an hour.

I bought a leakdown tester off eBay. Chinese rubbish- save your money and do what 73Clubby said.
