   nice one!

theres an electric car buzzing around ballarat, i love it! im not sure what the base car is, i think maybe it is a kit? i dont see it that often, i think perhaps maybe it is just a hobby car?

id definately be interested in the toyota prius...but i suppose soon we are going to see more hybrid cars on the market and they will become more availible.

but an electric mini would be rad. the key issue is battery life versus weight, placement, and of course cost. batteries are expensive themselves, but then you ahve to charche them?

perhpas a whole put-load of AA batteries?????

the caravan industry is really pushing the solar thing, to charge the batteries when you're not using them. they arent particularly effective, but perhaps it is a worthwhile addition? or would the spin of the wheels/motor charge them like an alternator/generator, so you never ahve to worry about it?

Mate work for a big fleet company and they have a Toyota Prius that is just out of warranty and the batteries need replacing...........
You could almost buy a Toyota Echo for the price of the batteries.

i would stick with optima yellow tops
51R- 12kg
- 41 amp/hrs
- 625 cranking amps
12x12= 144kg for a 144volt sys not that heavy, it would probably lack range though
or

D34- 19.5 kg
- 55 amp/hrs
- 870 cranking amps
12x19.5= 234kg for a 144volt sys, this would have more range

with a WarP "9" motor at 63kg plus your gear box, i think you could get the weight of the car down to about 100kg above a standard mini (about 800kg or so) with a zilla 1000k you would have a quick mini.
870amp x 144volts = 125280 watts or 125.3 kw with a motor which is about 85% efficient this means 106kw at the fly wheel and because electric motors have there power from nil rpm, this setup would rip your head off. i would mount a swift gearbox on a standard mini subframe and have a similar setup to this toyota echo conversion

The a series with gearbox is around 150kgs wet according to some sources, so if you put in a 63kg motor plus a 25 kg gearbox then you can afford to put 62 kgs (plus a bit) of batteries without affecting weight.

And it would ruin any street mini in terms of straight line speed. Maybe with cornering too due to the low centre of gravity and weight distribution.
