its funny you noticed that..

I would have to be retarded if I needed a red line to tell me when my motor was going to blow up :D

Its not set really its just where it is,

It wont see much more than 4 grand in situ. Once its in the car I will flog it only sometimes. If its in pain I will back off regardless of what the tacho sez.

more vids to follow

I ran it for about 20mins at 2 grand.

I am fairly confident its not going to backfire through the carby so I can put a filter on and it wont get burnt

I will do something similar tomorrow again.

I may even try and engage a gear to see if the box is ok.

I didnt let it idle for too long. I will tighten the head and redo the tappets tomorrow before I give it another squirt.

I've always been told to run in an engine under load, and at varying revs... sitting at the one rpm for a long time doesn't do it any good, and not having it under load won't let it expand the rings and the bores glaze up

or so I've been told.... :?

Tip, glue the rocker cover gasket to the rocker cover with contact adhesive, then use permatex non-hardening sealant between the gasket and the head.
You can pull the rocker cover off easily to adjust the rockers and the gasket will remain undamaged and not leak.

Thanks Morris,

I read that tip in one of your previous threads.

I have to go buy a timing light tomorrow so I will get some stuff.

Thanks Morris,

That Permatex #3 sealant is no more, it is now called Loctite (brand) #3.

ps. if you fit an alloy cover, you don't need any adhesive/sealant, the heat of the head tends to stick the gasket down and the alloy cover is flat so doesn't distort it.

I have only a pressed steel rocker cover. My fist is actually really tight :D
I have another couple here so if there is no joy with the glue and such I will try a different one. The one I am using has the tabs for the gasket and the other one has not.

I fired her up in situ today for the first time.

I still have some wiring issues but its alive. Its just straight out the headers so its loud. The idle is set fairly low so it shakes like a drag car. Is good to have made some more progress
