Not that I dislike conversions, they go like stink- I just dislike the wholesale butchery needed to the front subby to fit these alien motors in there.
I've seen many that don't (or can't) restore the front tiebar location point rigidity provided by the original.
No wonder they get `torque steer'. I'd call it subframe steer.

As for foreign Twin Cam or aftermarket 7 or 8 port heads I'm all for it, IF they give more power.
As Vizard said- if they don't, it ain't speed equipment. 8)

Ha Ha,,, yeah Doc, i`m with you on the "Butchered Crap" that seems to becoming common place with Jap transplants, but there are some decent conversions around... ok maybe there`s not many, but there are some

:-)

I was actually wondering what the cross flow head Mini engines sounded like...of course the conversion Minis would sound like a high revving Japanese engine...but what about the a series?

I was talking about 8ported a-series ;)

They are a shiznit - nothing sounds like worked oldschool motor's.

Nothing too special about the noise a conversion mini makes...they can sound good...but they're not special

7 or 8 porters sound better than 5 porters because they have 4 intakes, whether running 4x throttle body injection or 2 Webers, this sounds great.

We ran an 8 port Elder headed 1360 motor at Graham Russell's dyno day a few years back. It only made 145 or so HP with a street cam, but boy the induction noise sounded nice. :P

Someone asked about 5 port downdrought heads.
Well... Here's a pic of one:

So is that a standard head modified to be downdraft or a recast one ? What would be the benefits of that since you've still only got 5 ports ???

It's modfied.

I'm guessing you get a straighter airstream.
Same principle as a HEMI (or weslake's 8port). You decrease the valve's angle in/to the airstream.

But I don't know in how far such a conversion is a beneficial design with siamese ports ;)

Would it be fair to say that the amount of money you would need to invest into a 5 port head to get it to flow as well as the weslake would be close to the cost of a weslake head anyway?

And summing up the advantages over a 5 port:
-Weslake is alloy so better heat dissipation
-better intake approach angle
-better sized/flowing ports and valves
-no funky port interference due to siamese ports
-sounds better :)

Anything else?

Cheers,
Alex
