Just a note that an LSD (such as minispares tran-x)will not go much below a 3.44:1 (ie 2.9/3.1 etc won't fit) due to the bolts/overall diameter, i'm not sure of all brands but it's something you should check prior to purchase.

Yeah 2.76 is the tallest Minis ever had, and if you want one in Oz you have to pay for it! Take your average price for a 3.1 or 2.9, triple it and now we're talking

rearly? the 2.76 is fitted to all MPi Minis (from 1996, with airbag), and over here nearly everyone says you have to change that to a 3.2 or 3.44, and the used 2.76 is sold cheap as no one wants it (i got mine for 20€, think my turbo needs it)

Yeah over here 3.44s and 3.76s are a dime a dozen, most other ratios fetch good dollars though. Last quote I got for a 2.76 diff was something like $700

3.44s..cheap?? really? I'd assume they are but what about a cooper s one? Are they actaully any different to any other 3.44? As basically anything that has GT or Cooper S in the sentence is expensive!!

3.44s were not only used in the Cooper S, they were in the late 998 & 1275 Clubby in Oz. So, are pretty common.

Cooper S had Hardy Spicer U/Js, the others pot joints. But the diffs are the same, except their output shafts.

what would be the best one to have on a freeway, i hate revving my 1100 it just seems like its going to die when u do

Most 1100 Minis here got a 3.65.
A 3.44 will cruise better, and still go up hills.
Much taller than this though, and you will have to row it along, like a 998.

I feel the same way as meeni, I also have a worked 1100 in a 68 morris mini deluxe with a rebuilt engine n gearbox, would i have the 3.65??? it does around 3500rpm wen cruizin at 100km/h and i dont know if cruisin at that rpm for a long period of time, say an hour, would be harming my engine? it is extremely loud crusin at that speed and yea would like to kno if this would be harmin my engine??? how much would it cost to add a 5th gear or a lower ratio diff??

It's better for the engine harmonics wise to have it over 4200rpm apparently..

I do alot of freeway work..hell we drove our moke down to melbourne and it sat on 4500 the whole way no stress...

Whoa!!! thats crazy!!!! how much fuel did u go through at 4000rpm? coz mine tends to chew through the fuel at that speed/rpm.... it feels like it doesnt like doin that speed, like it doesnt wanna roll that easily if u kno wat i mean? the music part is no problem, the 15" sub wit the crazy stereo can drown out nething lol
rodney :D

as ive said before i have a 1100 with 2.7 and i dont have to change down a gear to go up hills u just have to give it a little more gas lol. it drove all the way to bathurst from coffs (8.5hrs) with no worries and all sitting at 3300 at 115. so bring on any 3.44s and we will see who ends up falling behind hahahaha. :P

mattsmini1971,
Whats your mini like off the mark in first gear??? is it hell slow coz thats something that i dont really want, the majority of my drivin is street cruizin (60-80km/h) n alot of stoppin n goin again at lights/traffic etc. is it still enjoyable n fun off the mark acceleration wise?
cheers,
rodney

well its seems allright to me. if u have a warm/hot motor and u have the extra horses and torque it will handle it ok. i do admit that its a little slower to 60 but 100 is a different story.Image
