The Morris 1300 in Australia was only available with an auto box. It was the same car as a Morris 1500 but with a 1275 and auto. They did this because there was no auto version of the 1500 motor.
Ok that answer screws me up. Over here I would have said an Austin/Morris 1100 and 1300 were the same thing (ADO-16). Both powered by A series east/west. The 1300GT is the go-to money for a mini transplant. Saying a 1300 is the same as a 1500 is going somewhere else?
I guess it's bound to be confusing in the land that called a 1275 an 1100S
BMC Oz were trading on the S badge and the Cooper S reputation, using it with an 1100 badge didn't confuse them, but it sure did everybody else.
We never got the 1300GT sold here, all our 1275s (except Cooper S & GT) were the basic 8.8:1 cooking version with a single HS4 carby.
As for the blocks with the hole above the centre main, it's not really a weak point, regardless of Vizard's musings.
Plenty of Nb race Minis here run these blocks and zing them to 9000rpm or more.
