well,,, that`s why i don`t bother welding the head at all... the distortion caused by alloy welding just isn`t the sort of thing i like very much & there`s no need to weld the head anyway. If you do weld it, then you`d be wanting to have all the cam tunnels line bored etc etc etc,

there are other people/companies who do weld the heads , not me tho, bugga that, there`s simply no need to

For the sake of a small piece of alloy plate, shaped to suit the bottom of the front of the cyl head to seal off the front head plate, just some devcon & grub screws is all that`s needed, everything else just bolts up to it.

easy-peasy

I actually thought "Devcon" was a brand, i`ve been using it for years & years & just buy it from the brearing shop

you can get Devcon to suit alloy or steel etc, so you will want the stuff for alloy of course

sorry i`m not much help tonight

I`m going to be using the k1000 8v head on a 998 & use all the ecu stuff from the bike in N/A form soon just for the sake of cheapness & ease, i have plenty of those cyl heads & computers & plenty of 998 donks

But i wasn`t going to play with the 16v 1100 ecu simply because there are far better computers out there that are more "Playable" & suit forced induction systems to boot, so i expect you could use one but would have to be a fairly small engine (like 1100) for the std Bimmer computer parameters to be able to cope, otherwise maybe try it with a 1275 & up the fuel pressure etc ... might work i just havn`t bothered to try.

My conversion kits are happening, Bruce has done all the timing plates & all the upper pulley bosses,,,, he`s in the middle of all the lower (mini cam) pulley bosses now & i`ve just ordered & pre-paid for all the pulleys ex japan (ETA 6 weeks i`m told) so now we just have all the upper cyl head plates to do & we will be close to being able to sell some kits to all you lovely people

:-)

Firstly hello to all , great forum, I've been lurking a while but thought it about time I joined up! as you'll gather my names John and I run Specialist Components in the UK - Hi to Matt and Sir Yun hope you guys are doing well.
I thought you may like to see some vids of our little demo car in action, its a 1293c bottom end runnng 21253 pistons 10:1 comp, bog std K100 twin cam 8v head/cams/throttle bodies (how tempted was I to tickle the ports on this one!) its running our kit/manifold/ecu etc and was built to show what could be done on a budget 8v build. One vid is from the dyno mapping session (figs at the fly) - look how flat the torque curve is from 2500 to 7600 (something you'll not see from a 5 port with this power) - its very torquey below 2500, thats just where the load was captured. The other clip is from a little bit of fun on the road. I've only included the sporty bits as it sounds so "normal" just driving around! - 7k change up point.

whack the volume up and enjoy!

Hi John, good to see you here at last, great stuff with your demo minis,

& yeah guys i`m getting there with my conversion kits, we have all our BMW cam pulley bosses done,,, all our timing plates are finished,,, we are finishing off all the mini cam bosses as i type this,,, & i`ve ordered & paid for all the actual pulleys from Japan (60 of them $$$ OUCH!!!) :-) & they will be here in about 4 weeks,,, so we are only left with the cyl head front plates to do & we have decided to modify the program slightly from our original so we are having a bit of fun sorting all that out being that the front of the 8v differs slightly from the front of the 16v head,,, but i will have a full compliment of all the bits to show off at the Mini Muster if you`re interested in having a gork.

I know i`ve been saying it for some time now, but it is happening & won`t be long till they`re done.

If anyone is too impatient to wait for my kit then i`m sure John can accomodate you with one of his conversion kits from England, i believe they cost about $1800 ->plus freight ->plus import duty -> plus GST.
