Besides, I already have one...

WTF would be more civilised about an HIF? :?

Its the one I am thinking of aint it Kev ;)

Yeah, it is.
Just for fun on the dyno day I'm bringing the BIG ported Redline manifold and a 45 Dellorto with 38 chokes, we'll see which carb is Top Dog... :P

There isnt really ghoing to be a competition there at all Kev, I think we all know the dellorto is going to win. Why not do a comparo between the redline mani and one of Grahams instead?

Chris,
I know Graham's Weber one is 6HP better than the Redline already, we proved that on Chong's.
But... it won't fit in the (std firewall) car, with ANY filter. I refuse to run a road car without one. The van will be a daily driver, like mine.
And NO I'm not butchering the car by fitting a Weber box. 8)

I doubt the 45 Dellorto and ported Redline will be much different to an HS6 on GR's long SU manifold. Let's see.

It DOES fit in some clubbies Kev. It doesnt fit in all.
There was a guy at GRs who threw it on, fit with filter and about 1/2 an inch of room (no firewall mods.
Another guy bought one, and it didnt fit, needed over an inch to be bashed into the firewall.

It depends on the car... I simply cant believe how much difference from one clubby to another!

Not saying run that, run whatever you like, but just that it can and DOES fit in some clubbies. I have seen it.

Pete.

does this mean you went into the cooling system? how do you plug such a hole? for i have a cooper s head which has been ported/machined into the cooling system. an the exhaust and inlet ports have been ported/machined out into the pushrod holes as well.

I went into the water jacket in 2 of the inlets, next to the divider. Nobody in Sydney would look at welding it. :x But hey I'm an old skool welder....
I did it the proper way as best I could- preheated it to 600C or so on a 2 burner camp stove, brazed it up on there with nickel bronze, then turned the stove off and erected a teepee of blankets over it to cool overnight.
After decking it, I bolted it to another head, sealed all the water connections and put the garden hose on it. That's about 800KPa where I live. No leaks. :D

I wouldn't braze exhaust ports in yours, but you can sleeve the pushrod holes with a thin steel sleeve pressed in. That's the common method of repair there.

Pete.

I had one of GR's Weber ones in my roundnose for a while, and I had to cut the speedo hole a little bit and hit firewall with hammer to even run it with NO filter. :x
When I decided I wanted a Ramflo filter on, I cut the firewall to clear it, but no way the filter would miss the speedo. And a Ramflo is pretty thin.
The 77 van has no hole in firewall, and it's gonna have Mini-K instruments. So, there's no room for a box anyway.
I'm aware that I might have a minor problem with the HS6 and firewall, but it's a rodchange box, so I'll fit an adjustable steady or 3, and tilt the motor forward slightly..

Then I'll attack the gearbox...
Dyno day/BBQ at GR's will be on Saturday 8/12/07, I'll put a post in the cruises & events forum when I have more details.

998 Clubby S box is now stripped. After I convert the mainshaft to later type 18mm nose bearing I'll fit new 127GT cluster gear and 1st motion shaft.
Same ratios as Mk2 Cooper S. :D

I degreased the motor and hosed it, blew dry with air, then prepwashed it.
I brushed it- I find it gives better adhesion than spraying.
Paint is Omeron Coatings `Mini Metallic Green'. 8)

how much clearance are you guys needing to fit a air filter with the manifold you mentioned.

You can get a right angle drive that screws on the back of the mini speedo to give you clearance. I think it was from a an early jag

will find it and post a picture if anyone is interested

I brought it when i lived in Melbourne a few years back

Cheers

I'm confident I can fit a Ramflo filter to an HS6 on GR's 7" manifold, without cutting a hole in the late model firewall. It might just get hit/reshaped by a SVBFH if needed.

With the Dellorto on GR's manifold in my roundnose, it wasn't just the speedo cable, to fit a filter the whole bloody speedo needed moving into the car an inch or 2. I wasn't prepared to put a Weber box in there so didn't bother, I sold the manifold to Gafmo, and ported the #### out of my Redline.

I've heard those 90° speedo angle boxes were maybe used on LandRover or Range Rover? :?
