Mick,
GR checks it like I do- dial gauge on end of crank, then pry crank each way with a screwdriver between end bearing caps and crank.
Don't be brutal, or use a crowbar...

Kev is right. It takes hardly any pressure at all to move the crank. Dial gauge has got to be the way to do it.

By the way!!! Graham called, the piston compression tool thingy is STEEL not Aluminium! I was wrong as it weighed bugger all I thought it was anodised AL

Who called graham asking him how to make one of those piston ring compressors thingies? So yeah it's made of steel 8)

Thanks guys...just wanted to check that you don't need much force at all...is the dial guage the only option :?: Wouldn't feeler gauges slipped down beside the centre main at a couple of crank postions do the same but not as accurate :?:

I think it's how many people do it but to measure 005-007 thou accurately I would have to say use a dial gauge. It is a critical measurement that you cannot get wrong, not unless you want the crank to grab a thrust washer...

Thanks Chong....I just want to have a go sometime to see if I can cobble something together...I promise to use a glass on the thrust washer writing first just like GR recommends :!:

if he was coming to new zealand i would say he is picking up a 1275 motor but to canberra i would just say its a rocker cover or something similar in size.

That's a long way to go for a 1275 block with a hole in it chong! :D
At least it's only a third of the way compared to the last one.

Sure sure! NZ is the land of the unloved minis! Next time I am around I will hire a container to bring some "holy" blocks back :P

I have about 6 or 8 you can take back but i must admit the hole came loose and decided to move to the front of the block on some and the rear on others.SO it doesnt matter where the hole is as long as its a holy block right.

cool ill get some phoneing done and im sure we can fill a container of blocks for you a variety of different sizes from 850 up to 1275 (plus over sizes)

Let me know when your coming as ill move them back inside and spray them up for you.

See the reason why you have so many holy blocks is because you kiwis don't know the first thing about how to build minis properly!  :P
