Post subject:  What's the purpose of the LH vent hole in later front panels

I have replaced the front panel on my mini with a panel similar to this one

I had the grill off the other day and was reminded about the vent hole on the LHS front, it seems it has a purpose but I couldn't figure out what it might be.

What's the purpose of the LH vent hole in later front panels?

Best I could do as a reason was it was to get air rushing past the radiator in an effort to create some sort of venturi effect to promote air flow through the radiator... but it would add to the air that had to make it out of the wheel well...

I'm also aware these are UK panels so differences between Aussie and UK models might have lead to it.

Has anyone found a creative use for it? Oil cooler duct? Brake cooling duct, cabin airflow? Airflow to air filter?

Later cars used this for the cabin fresh air duct.

Good to know! I'm now trying to think of all sorts of tricky uses for it, or them if I put another one on the driver's or rhs.
