I was checking the camshaft timing after assembling the gears dot to dot, and even with the vernier adjustment I couldnt get to 106 degrees, it was more in the 125 deg range. So I moved it one tooth away (from the dot to dot position) and was able to get it spot on. Any comments welcome. |

I understand this is not uncommon, to be one tooth out. Great you sorted it. |

I did check it every possible way I could, as I always expect operator error to be the cause, but I think it is as I described. |

On my vernier setup, one tooth off moves it well outside the venier range to correct.... Worth checking. Cheers, Ian |

hi 9er No idea whether that gear/ cam or chain looks misaligned, which is what i think you are asking for. I have read of a couple of instances where the setup was a bit of a 'guess' which side of the tooth the chain should go for the dots to be aligned..... but no memories of any particular cam or gear etc..... so a good reminder to dial in the cam even if it is just as a confirmation. The other part of your situation also fits the bill. IIRC one tooth on the timing gear is worth 18 degrees( which for those without a vernier setup correlates to offset keys being available to 9 degrees), so your 125 degrees minus one tooth puts you very close to 106 ( and certainly then adjustable at the vernier) |
