I have been fortunate enough to pick up a stock standard 1962 650 with all matching numbers. I would like to keep the appearance as stock as possible but would like to have a bit more power under the bonnet. I want to keep the pudding stirrer but would ideally like to go to a 4 synchro box with possibly an 1100 motor or similar. I'm not interested in a 1275 or bigger and don't intend on going to disc brakes but will upgraded to front twin cylinders. What would be the likelihood of picking up an already running engine that I could get some mileage out of before needing any major work?

It's a pretty unusual combination, so the chances of finding a complete unit ready to drive is pretty slim. You might need to find a running 1100cc engine and the gearbox you want & join them together and hope there aren't any issues

I've done a similar engine for my 850:
1100
4 synchro gearbox
Magic wand diff housing

It goes really well and you can make it look like a stock 850 engine if you want

Hi Tim, yeah that's the idea I would like to keep it as stock looking as possible. What gearbox did you go with ?

Mine is a 22G1128 remote case with the 850 diff cover. Std ratio gears and 3.44 diff, in hindsight perhaps a 3.1 diff would have worked well too

Probably looking for a 10YJUH, 1000 or 1003 prefix powerplant from a 1969 to 1973 poverty pack sedan or van. Maybe even a 10YFUH Moke powerplant but the diff might need changing.
These are 1098cc engines and used the 4 syncro 22G1128 box with a centre gear change puddin stirrer.

Can you buy the parts to convert the remote change gearbox to the "puddin stirrer"?
Mains parts being the gear stick, pipe, toggle and bottom plate.

You can definitely buy the parts and swap them over as all the 4 synchro “direct shift” components are external of the gearbox case

The parts can be difficult to find in decent condition though

I have found bits and pieces but looks to be somewhat difficult finding the toggle and gear stick. It may be easier to look at swapping to an 850 diff.
