Post subject:  Front Neg Camber arms
does anyone have a set of 1.5 degress neg camber arms because i am making my own and would like to no how much longer they are than standard ones.

I hope you are not just cutting and welding them, it's illegal now.. :shock:

(Although I did it years ago, spaced them 1/8" and arc welded them up... we could get away with anything back then). :lol:

According to Vizard's book HTMYM p156, every 1/8" length change gives about 0.5* angle. I haven't checked by doing geometry lately, but I would have thought more. I doubt the 1.5* arms are 3/8" longer... :roll:

i was goin to cut and weld them. i thought they might be illegal but i'm not fussed with that because i am doin to a spare set. and who is goin to look anyway. i am runnin 6" wide welded steel wheels and only the guy who did my blue slip notice because he was a ex BMC mechanic.

Cut and welded bottom arms (apart from being illegal) can be fine if they're done properly - I know of many who have used them for competition and road use for decades without drama.
I'm not sure what Vizard recommends, but if you start with 2 pairs, measure them carefully and cut through them at slightly different places on a 45 degree angle - you can then weld the longer sections from each pair together to avoid using a spacer. The arms are forged and there are special rods that should be used for this material, take them to a professional welder unless you are sure you know what you're doing.

i am goin to get it welded at work with a large mig welder. that is a very good idea using to parirs of arms. i went to mini spares padstow today and they are making a kit with ajustable tie rods and neg camber arms

Yep, and this is one of those situations where you really want 100% penetration. As well as no inclusions, porosity etc.

What are the off the shelf 1.5 deg. arms worth out of interest???

MiniSport in Adelaide will list them for you i'm sure with a buy it now price..$195

Karcraft list them for $225 i think..double check that though, last time i checked even with shipping on top Minisport came out cheaper ;)

"Get adjustable ones so that you can start by correcting any misalignment before dialling in the 1.5 degrees."

But the adjustable ones are technically illegal for road use- whereas if you fit fixed 1.5s, nobody will ever know by looking... :P

Sure it is, my point is most people don't bother with that step, it costs $$$- and with fixed 1.5 arms nobody will pick it, even if the unthinkable happens and you bend it. :wink:
