Just a quick question. Did any non-S 1275 motors come with tappet chest covers? And did Aussie mk1 or 2 S motors have a mechanical fuel pump? Or did they have the hole blanked off?

Anto.

I know my 1275 Cooper S Mk2 motor did not have a space for a Mechanical pump

1. Not that I've ever seen.
2. Never.
3. Flat mounting pad there but no holes.

It's just that this 1275 I looked at (photos only no engine number) had tappet chest covers, but from what I could make out had the usual sort of blanking plate over the mechanical fuel pump hole with two studs. Has an 11 stud head. I would assume he couldn't be confusing a 998 with a 1275 :)

Remote change box with hardy spicers but apparently it was converted assumably from uni joints.

Yes it does have a stud or something there, but no hole in the block for the pump arm...
You could fit one by cutting a hole (I did to a Sprite once) but you have to change the cam- S one has no pump cam lobe.

Cheers

the very very early clubman GTs had a side plate block with fuel pump hole not drilled,,,these were essentially a MK2 "S" block but with engine number stamped as per GT series

pretty rare tho, not many made & as said, only the very early GT got them, my Bimmer twin cam is now ontop of one of those,,, yeah i know,,, i probly shouldn`t have :-)

The later GTs were basically an 1275cc-->1100"S" "Non side plate" block with the fuel pump hole open, they were also stamped with the appropriate GT engine number
