I've put (modified) a Nissan Pulsar alternator from an N16 Pulsar (it's actaully a Mitsubishi believe it or not) and it has an excite line and a warning light line. With the excite line from ignition the alternator charges great but I can't get the warning light to function, even connected like the original mini. This is not important as I have a voltmeter to tell me it's working but I'd like to have the light too, by the way just if this makes any difference at all I have a clubman guage cluster. I'll post pictures of this in my engine bay soon as it fit'e nicely, didn't require a lot of modification just some machining down of the brackets and a pulley had to be machined on a lathe to fit the alternator as it's a flat belt. For those people interested in the tech side of it, it's rated at 70 amp, almost double that of the 16ACR, late model mini one.

Does the warning light switch in 12 volts when it wants to come on, or does it simply switch to ground when the output drops off? If you've got your light set up the wrong way around, this might be the problem.
